Science Update

Creating mixtures and solutions, Chemistry excursions and discovering DNA!

All in a terms work at ECSC!🧪🧫🧬

Students have made an incredible start to Term 2 Science. There has been a range of exciting experiments and activities organised and more to come!

The Year 11 Chemistry students attended their excursion to EcoLinc on Friday the 13th of May. Students participated in hands-on organic compound modelling, molecular bonding experiments, and they even made their own gold nanoparticles!

The excursion was very valuable in preparation for their AOS 2 SAC and it was great to see students out enjoying an excursion after two years! All students represented the school with great pride, showed respect and actively participated throughout the entire program. Well done to all students involved!

Year 10 - Genetics

Year 10 students have started learning about genetics and inheritance. This has seen students engaged in understanding DNA replication, and how traits are passed through families. Students have participated in a number of hands on activities, including building DNA models out of lollies, extracting DNA from strawberries and observing cells under a microscope.

Year 9 - Electrical Circuits

Year 9 students have started participating in a their new physics unit! Students have loved participating in building electric circuits and it has been fantastic to see students embracing our school values in each and every lesson.

Shout out to Aleksandar Petrovic (9E) for successfully completing the challenge of creating a circuit where one light requires a switch, and one light stays on constantly.

Year 8 - Chemistry

Year 8 students have made a fantastic start to learning about physical and chemical changes. Students have embraced being able to participate in hands on experiments this term demonstrating the school values of respecting all and embracing learning!

Year 7 - Mixtures and Solutions

Year 7 students have also started learning about Chemistry in term 2. This is building their skills and knowledge to be able to write their first full practical report by the end of this term! Students participated in the Mixtures and Separations experiment. It has been wonderful to see our year 7 students build their science skills this year!

Year 9 Partners in Crime

Year 9 students have been learning all about blood and how this can be used for evidence by forensic scientists at crime scenes. Students participated in a Blood Spatter experiment, where they able to determine how blood spatters changed due to surface material and distance!
