Principal's Report

As you read through our newsletter, it is important to notice the range of curriculum and extra curricula experiences our students are able to engage in at the College. The cold snap has meant we are seeing more students and staff absent with colds and influenza. Despite this we are all trying to continue to provide normal school experiences across all year level. The first half of the term alone we have had: Year 8 Camp; NAPLAN; Science excursions and Inter-school sport. As a College we have also begun to reconnect with Edgars Creek Primary school. Our Year 10 students have made characters from the primary school students favourite storybook while our VCE Product Design class is designing and building benches for the younger grades 1-2. Our VCAL students have also been  facilitating House activities for our Year 7 students. All of these activities are helping to build connectedness and a sense of community across the College.

Importance of completing the whole day at school.

I do wish to take the time to remind families of the importance of students arriving on time in the morning and remaining until the end of the day. When students arrive late they miss home group. Home group is an essential part of the day as the information shared during this time enables students to be more organised and understand what is occurring across the College. They may hear information about changes to their classes; where to try out for sport; when the library is open and up and coming excursions. Signing in late should be a rare event. We are finding that for some families due to traffic the older children are dropped off at school last. Thereby making them late. The same situation occurs at the end of the day. High school students must be in class until 3.08 pm. We understand that there are occasional exceptions where dental or medical appointments are made after school and this sometimes requires students to leave early. However, students should not be leaving early because of traffic. After two years of interrupted learning due to Covid-19 and lockdowns we WANT our students to arrive on time, remain at school and finish at 3.08 pm. As a College we will be introducing a Student Collection Policy in Term 2 which will outline expectations and processes so that classes are not disrupted by high school students arriving late in the morning or leaving early at the end of the day.

Uniform Update

Thank you to all our families who support our uniform policy. During these colder months, all of us need to work together to maintain high uniform standards across the College. The sports uniform should NOT be worn unless the students have PE and this is once a week. I have included the graphics below to help everyone understand what is acceptable school uniform and what is NOT school uniform.

Outstanding Staff Achievements

I would like to take the time to congratulate the following teachers who received awards from the University of Melbourne this semester:

Mark Stacey – Future Generation Scholarship in Education

Maddie Charisis – Dean’s Honour Award (Top 3% in her degree)

Luke Giblett – Lochrie Indigenous Australian Scholarship

We have an amazing team of teaching and education support staff at the College and they work endlessly to support all students.

Professional Practice Day

The Department of Education and Training have re-introduced Professional Practice days for teaching staff. Please note that no students are required at school on Tuesday 14 June. The College will be open but no classes will be run and no supervision will be available.
