ALPINE SHIRE YOUTH AWARDS

Held Friday evening, 16th September, the Youth Awards are to celebrate the contributions, achievements, diverse skills and talents of young people who live, work or study in the Alpine Shire. From Mount Beauty, nominated for the Sports and Recreation Award were Taylah Power and Harry Stripeikis. Congratulations to them both for being recognised for their great contribution towards their sports.

CONFIDENCE

Harry Stripeikis was amongst a cohort of footballers to be selected to participate in the V/Line Cup in Shepparton from 19-21 September.  The V/Line Cup is Victoria’s Premier U15’s Championship Competition for Country Boys and Girls Footballers, participating at the highest competitive level.  Harry played in the Division 1 Competition for the North East Border Bushrangers.  They played against teams from Greater Western Victoria and the Goulburn Valley areas.  Congratulations Harry!

Year 8 student Evelyn Niedzwiedzki has been playing cricket in the NSW Under 16s Female Country Championships in Tuggerah this Monday and Tuesday. Her team played four games over two days, representing the Riverina Region. Evelyn was the team’s wicket keeper, batted for three of the games and opened the batting in one game. Evelyn has been playing cricket for Mount Beauty United Cricket Club since she was 9 years old and has played representative cricket for North East Victoria in the Youth Premier League in Melbourne in 2020 and 2022.

RESPECT

Thank you to our thoughtful Business Management students who baked a farewell cake for Mr Thorpe ( & put on their best sad-face).

Thank you to students Lachy, Heath and Callum for planting 130 plants in an afternoon last term.  Three other students couldn't turn up - so this crew rose to the challenge and got all the work done and had a good laugh whilst doing so.

Respect to Careers Practitioner Jo Macklan who received in the mail her trophy for winning the MaryAnne Mooney perpetual trophy for excellence in career services in an educational setting in 2021. The award is given to a member school or organisation for building a strong career development culture in their school or organisation and, through a variety of programs, provides its students with the skills to navigate the ever-changing world of further training, education and work. It recognises the commitment the school or organisation is making to acknowledge the importance of quality career development programs for young people.

Jo (pictured here with some of our current Year 12 students) supports our students through careers counselling with the process of making post school study and employment applications including TAFE and University applications, preparing resume’s and apprenticeship applications, finalising early entry program requirements, and preparations for gap year experiences. Students have been engaged in 1 to 1 counselling appointments and are able and encouraged to access careers support from the school even post Year 12 graduation and beyond. If you would like to access any more information about careers and pathway options or book a careers consultation please visit the website here https://mtbeautycareers.com/ Parents/Guardians are also more than welcome to make an appointment with or without their student.

A group of six students from Mount Beauty Secondary College attended the School for Student Leadership in Marlo during Term 2. As part of this experience, they were required to plan and complete a community learning project to help improve the local area. The team chose to create a community tree planting day with the support of the Upper Kiewa Catchment Landcare Group to help make our community greener and help make an impact against Climate Change. The day was held last term and was a huge success. The weather was brilliant, and all the trees were planted ahead of schedule allowing for an early finish. Well done to Annika, Zoe, Daisy, Natalie, Aidan and Will.
