Inquiry Centre

Curriculum

Selamat siang! The Inquiry Centre students have been busy preparing for Open Night and cannot wait to have families come and see our learning spaces.

We have been hard at work writing speeches about all the things that makes MPRPS so great and have filmed or voice recorded our presentations. On Thursday for Open Night, we will have QR codes printed off so that you can listen to and watch these speeches. It has been fantastic to have students focus on their persuasive writing skills and different ways that they can convince the reader. We hope that you can spot some of these persuasive techniques!

In reading, we have been thinking about the author’s purpose and the audience of different texts. When looking at texts, we consider whether the author’s main reason for writing was to persuade, inform or entertain… we noticed that some texts have more than one purpose! Knowing the purpose of a text is an important skill to help us think critically about what we are reading.

Maths has been filled with hands on explorations of fractions as we investigate halves, thirds, quarters and beyond. We started with thinking about real world examples such as sharing a pizza, cake or anything else and discussed how we could share them fairly - after all, fractions have to be fair! This was a great way for students to tune into the concept of how fractions must have equal parts. Throughout the week, we practised saying, writing and making fractions in lots of different ways. We will continue to build on our understanding of fractions both of an object and a collection in the week ahead.

Our Wellbeing lessons this week looked a little bit different as we were fortunate enough to have an Incursion with Trent and Sam from the Cyber Safety Project. They taught us all about our digital wellbeing and how to look after ourselves when balancing our screen time. We learnt how to notice when our body needs a break from screens by thinking about how we feel and brainstormed some helpful ways to ‘recharge our batteries’. These strategies included having movement breaks, drinking plenty of water, eating well, taking some deep breaths and the trickiest one of all - getting off our screen before we are told! We encourage families to continue talking about digital wellbeing at home

Our final update is that this week, we are launching into a Writing unit about poetry and are searching for inspiration. You may have seen already that we have some Home Talk on Seesaw. We would love for students to bring in a photo or an item to generate ideas for poems if possible. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your classroom teacher on Sentral or in a comment on Seesaw.

Have a fabulous week,

Miss Glen, Mrs Martin, Miss Molloy, Mrs Seadon, Mrs Moroney, Mr Shaw, Mrs Sutherland and Mrs Tang
