What we have been up to…

It has been so much fun to get the kids more closely involved in the planning process over this past fortnight. We are encouraging the children to get more involved through conversations and questions, and by taking note of when they spontaneously come up with ideas and suggestions. This week is ‘Game Show’ week. The theme was suggested by one child last week, and this suggestion sparked a conversation on what sorts of activities we could be doing around this theme (such as Minute to Win It, Family Feud, and Trivia). It has been so exciting to see all these wonderful ideas come to life! The kids have really been stepping up and taking ownership of their time here. We started seeing this increased level of responsibility with the children beginning to help serve afternoon snack, and now it has progressed to them not only making activity suggestions, but even running their own group games, crafts, and activities.  What an inspiring group of young leaders we have here! We have also introduced ‘yarning circles’, an Indigenous practice which helps us to enable respectful communication between children, and to demonstrate visually the connections between us (see photos below). Also, it was so much fun to meet some new and familiar faces at the coffee van morning last Wednesday! We are looking forward to continue seeing where the next weeks lead us!
