Backflips Against Bullying

In support of the National Day of Action Against Bullying, students across all year groups attended Backflips Against Bullying interactive workshop during Term 2.

The interactive acrobatic workshops covered cyber-bullying, harassment, power, resilience, and real-world consequences of bullying behaviour. Students were also given the opportunity to talk to the facilitators about their journey into their acrobatic field.

WSU Law Clinic

The senior students at James Busby High School were fortunate to attend a workshop with lawyers and law students from Western Sydney Uni’s Street Law Clinic. The workshop provided our students with valuable information regarding cyberbullying and cybercrime (including laws related to consent). Additionally, students learnt about road safety and traffic offences – this was a great learning opportunity for many of our students who are either newly on the road as driver’s themselves or in the process of getting their licences. Our students engaged and interacted well with the law students – making the most of the opportunity to discuss “Uni life” and learn about pathways into university.

Western Sydney University – Street Law Clinic will return to James Busby High School in Term 3 to run workshops with Years 7, 8 & 9. We are looking forward to having them back at our school.

Community Drug Action Team, Fairfield World Cup

The Fairfield Community Drug Action Team in partnership with Fairfield City Council, NSW Police and local community services held a Wellbeing event in June at Fairfield Showground. 17 Year 7 & 8 students from James Busby High School attended the event playing soccer with other local high schools. The students engaged with local support services and activities at the stalls, learning about Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) and the harmful effects they can have on a person. The students listened to guest speakers Nick Kenny & Johnny Nguyen, both who have lived experience. A wonderful opportunity for the students to continue their learning outside the school environment.
