Years 10, 11 and Special Education
Parents and Guardians of Year 10,
It has been another busy term for Year 10.
The Year 10 cohort participated in their first round of the Minimum Standards Testing. Students needed to have demonstrated an achievement of Level 3 in the fields of Reading, Writing and Numeracy. Students who reached this, will now be able to be awarded their NSW Higher School Certificate following the successful completion of both the Preliminary and HSC courses in their chosen subject. For the students who were not successful in this first round will have multiple opportunities in Years 10, 11, 12 to gain their NSW Higher School Certificate. As a whole the students conducted themselves in a respectful and mature manner. Good job all around!
We have had a number of students involved in the YES TAFE program. This has allowed the students a chance to gain an insight into future career paths and TAFE courses. These students are to be congratulated in taking an initiative on establishing what they intend to do after their schooling. This has either been on a weekly basis over the term or in a two week block at the end of the term.
On Friday, 10th of May we had a group of students who are part of the Fast Forward program visit the campus of Western Sydney University to participate in mentoring activities with current university students and staff. Students were able to discover their learning style and their strengths that will aide them in picking subjects for Year 11. Students will be going through their subject selection next term. More information is to follow but please discuss with your children the importance of choosing subjects that align with their interests, abilities and planned future career and study paths. The students once again were wonderful ambassadors of James Busby High School and upheld the school values in a brilliant manner.
Year 10 students were also involved in a ‘Street Law Clinic’ organised by our school support officer Ms J. Moon and the Western Sydney University. Students had current law students inform the students of their rights when driving, staying safe online, the dangers of services like AfterPay and the importance of consent.
We would both like to acknowledge the students that go above and beyond with their studies and attitude and thank them for being the positive role models for the cohort and the rest of the school. This was made evident by the increased numbers of students in Year 10 electing to take part in the Wellbeing Ambassador Program. Successful applicants will be advised in the near future.

Congratulations to Telesia and Kiara of Year 10 for successfully completing their TAFE courses!
Year 11…we are coming to the end of another term, and you only have one more term before you finish year 11. Please keep on top of your assessments and classwork and reach out to your teachers if you are struggling. Continue to focus on attendance and keep up the hard work. We are getting closer to the end of our high school years.
Our school jacket is in the process of getting ordered. We would like everyone in our year group to own a senior jacket so please order yours. Place your orders before the beginning of next term end and if you need help, let your year advisers know. Send us an email and we will happily guide you.
We are quite excited to finally take our Year 11 students next term (Friday 29th July) for their Western Sydney University Fast Forward Day. Unfortunately, we could not visit the University in 2020 and 2021 due to lockdown. This will be a great opportunity to speak to current students at the University and staff who will discuss a range of courses available and an opportunity to participate in interactive workshops.
We have also started our fundraising this term and our sausage sizzle fundraiser was quite a success. Lots of year 11 students gave up their time on Saturday the 21st of May to be part of our fundraiser. Thank you very much to all the Year 11 students concerned for your support and hard work.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a restful and mid-year break. Looking forward to seeing you all next term and to continue your high school journey with you.
