Spotlight on a

Student

Our School Captain

Meet Dylan Kao, one of our 2022 school captains.

Early in Term 2, Dylan was interviewed by members of the Department of Education's media team for a project (yet to be released). We thought we'd take this opportunity to ask Dylan some questions about his experiences so far as a student leader.

What does being a leader mean for you?

Being a leader means being a guide and mentor for others and directing the younger generation onto the right path to a successful career. It also means to stand up for what is right in our community and represent not only our school but my culture in the best way possible.

What has been the most rewarding experience for you so far as school captain?

Knowing that i am making a change and having students look up to me for guidance.

Tell us about one experience that has made an impact on your life in a positive way. Hearing from a younger student in Year 8 that they look up to me and want to be just like me as school captain of his own school. Participating in the NRL School to Work Leadership Youth Summit where I learned a lot of my skills to become the best version of myself that I could possibly be.

What advice would you give the next school captain?

Don't be afraid to stand up for what is right even if you're the only one standing. One quote I live by is, 'There are no limits to what you can accomplish except the ones you place on your own thinking.'

What can you tell us about yourself that no one would ever know?

There's really not much that people don't know about me. I do a lot of cardio and football a few times a week.

Parting comment:

In all aspects of life, always have confidence behind you.

We thank Dylan for taking the time to share his thoughts and knowledge with us.
