School Excursions

We are very excited that excursions are back up and running to enhance the students’ educational experience. Last week our students visited such diverse locations as the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court, the Melbourne Zoo, Spotlight, Savers Recycled Clothing and upmarket fashion stores at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre, Cardinia Life Gym and Cannibal Creek and they also had incursions with VicRoads and the Australian War Memorial.

Our Year 10.1 Enhancement class visited the Dandenong Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday for the day. Students spent 3 weeks in class researching the operation and functions of the court.

On the day, they heard 2 cases in the Drug Court and then heard a variety of criminal matters in other court rooms. A highlight was a Q&A session with one of the Magistrates. She explained the way criminal cases are handled and then unpacked information around an especially gruelling case the students had just heard. It was a most informative day for the students.

Students in 9.2 Humanities attended a virtual live excursion last week with the Australian War Memorial, to link with their studies on World War 1. During this time, they viewed a variety of exhibitions with an Australian War Memorial staff member, analysed primary source evidence and had the opportunities to ask questions they had on this topic. A wonderful experience for all of the students with our world class National Memorial in Canberra.

Year 10 Body Attack Students smashing their fitness goals

Our Year 10 Body Attack students have been working extremely hard to develop a training program to match their fitness goals. They conducted fitness testing during term one and from their results, have developed a training program that will allow improvements within testing that will be conducted at the end of term two.

Students are currently completing a four week block of training utilising the facilities our good friends at Aligned Leisure have provided for us.

Melbourne Zoo Excursion - Year 10 Photography and Year 10 Art

The students visited the Melbourne Zoo in order to take a series of photographs of animals, using skills they had obtained in their photography class this semester - demonstrating both their technical and creative skills using a DSLR camera. They captured some excellent photos of the animals in motion, which they will now use to create photography themed artworks.

This term in Art, the students will be designing and creating a papier mache animal bust.

To assist with their artwork, the students visited the zoo to observe a number of animals, studying elements such as texture, colour, form and shape, and used their drawing skills to capture these.

These drawings will now become the basis of their animal bust artwork.

Year 10 Fashion Excursion to Spotlight, Savers Recycled Clothing and Upmarket Fashion Stores

The Year 10 Fashion students visited Spotlight to purchase fabric for their garment construction project and then followed this with a visit to Fountain Gate Shopping Centre, specifically Savers Recycled Clothing store and some upmarket fashion stores, to complete an assignment comparing the cost of new and recycled fashion for a particular event.

Can you tell which fashions are from Savers (below) and which are from the upmarket stores?

Members from the VicRoads Road Smart team visited the College on Thursday to run an incursion for our Year 10 students. Road Smart is an educational program that helps prepare beginner drivers for a lifetime of safe driving. The program is designed to build the knowledge, skills and driving behaviours of learner drivers. As well as the interactive session with the Road Smart facilitators, it also includes eLearning for students and supervising drivers and a free in-car session with a qualified instructor.

Cannibal Creek Land Care Excursion

Last Thursday our Year 11 Environmental Science and PACT students worked alongside volunteers from the Cannibal Creek Land Care Group to re-establish native vegetation that was lost during the 2019/2020 bushfires in our local area.

They planted 512 trees (Eucalypts, Acacias and Paperbarks) that will grow and eventually form part of a wildlife corridor, connecting patches of remnant bush that would otherwise be isolated due to land clearing. A fantastic effort by everyone involved!
