Year 5/6—Celebrating Learning

4/5/6 Mainstream

During Unit Focus, students in 4/5/6 have been learning about the adaptations of plants and animals that live in particular biomes. They researched different environments, and how the flora and fauna have specific features to help them survive and thrive. Students created case studies and drew accurate, annotated drawings to accompany their information.

The Theft of Iduna’s Apples.

This term finishes off with 4/5S getting ready to perform their play in Term 3. They have been busy learning their lines at schools, and some at home, rehearsing their scenes most days of the week, and choosing and accessorising their own costumes. As we got towards the end of the term students created their own posters to market the play.

Ava “I’ve enjoyed performing my parts.”

Ollie says “The play is really funny, and I like that!.”

Mayla says “I like how the play is funny and I like how we’re making the costumes.”

Aron says “I liked choosing my costume. My favourite part are my swords!”

Mapping Round the World

This term ends with 5/6S looking at world geography and making maps of the continents and exploring the countries, capitals, borders, rivers and mountain features that fill them. We will have a greater look at our world's climate and its relation to the tropics and equator. As we  discover the world around us we will take note of how rivers and mountains also shape where we live and why we congregate in the locations that we do. Here are some images from their Main Lesson books and their thoughts on the subject.

Saul says “It was fun, interesting, and educational.”

Rose says “They're ok lessons, not my favourite.”

Jools says “I have been finding the maps a challenge to draw.”

Euca says “I really enjoy the lessons, as it is cool to learn about the world and draw the maps.”

Annabelle says “It’s been very fun drawing and learning about the countries.”

Adelie says “It was ok, but it was a lot of work.”
