Junior School

The Junior School was a busy place to be this week!

On Tuesday, Dr Drew and Mrs Gerrard took students to Bathurst to compete in the HICES Cross Country Carnival. The sportsmanship of our students was outstanding, and we were the overall winners of our division! Tasmin and Lucas are off to CIS for their great efforts and we look forward to hearing how they go.

On Wednesday, students at Springwood and Wentworth Falls joined the ALIA National Simultaneous Story Time. Our students joined hundreds of thousands of students all around the country to celebrate reading. Students listened to “Family Tree” by Josh Park and Ronojoy Ghosh. This beautiful story teaches that families change and grow and we are all connected like the parts of a tree.

Thursday was a big day for Stage 3 students – they headed to Bathurst where they learned all about the Australian Goldrush. Students visited a museum, panned for gold, made damper, joined in old fashioned games and listened to stories about people who were really there.

Our Stage 3 students are now transferring those big ideas of ‘Discovery’, ‘Adversity’ and ‘Resilience’ and are researching other inspiring individuals from history and comparing them to those who forged ahead in their search for gold. The excursion providers consistently praised our students and Mrs Spohr and Mr Forbes were very proud to take them out for the day.

After a challenging week for our School community, I am reminded that we are a community, connected like all the parts of a tree. We all experience adversity, no school is without it, but we can respond with resilience. Every day I am reminded that it is a privilege to work with young children, and when I spend time with the children in the Junior School there is such incredible joy!

Basketball Report - Term 2, Week 5

The BMGS Swish team had a bye on Monday night and they are currently in 5hth position on the ladder.

On Tuesday the 24th of May, the BMGS Stars enjoyed their warm up training drills and it is clear to see they are getting a lot better at controlling their ball when they are dribbling and are also able to gain control of an out of control ball. During our first mini game, with only 6 players at our session, we managed to score three times, which ended in a draw. Our second game resulted in a win with lots great passing, quick shooting and awesome defending. Sebastian Nicholls, Madeline Russell, Hugo Courtemanche and Claire Rutherford were our scorers this week. Christian McHugh showed excellent defending skills and it was great to see Alexander Kinnear’s confidence growing as he intercepted the ball and dribbled it to our end on a few occasions. Overall the students are improving each week and they are enjoying the wonderful game of basketball.
