120th Year Celebrations & Dress Up Parade

This year is set to be an exciting one for our school as it is our 120th Anniversary.  As the term goes along, you’ll receive information about upcoming events. Two 'out of school' time events will be taking place in Term 4.  There will be events in every term of the year; you’ll be given plenty of notice with details of each event.

This year’s book week theme is Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds, which is very fitting for our school.

Due to a packed calendar later on in the year, we will be holding our annual Book Week Parade in Term 1. We would like to celebrate books with the theme of Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds during week 8 (beginning 22 March).

In Term 1, we will be holding our annual book week parade, Friday 26 March. We are encouraging our students to dress up in historical costumes from characters (real or imagined) of years gone by.

Our Book Parades are a highlight of our yearly calendar and this year is set to be no different.  If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate in contacting your child’s class teacher/s.

Safer Internet Day

Tuesday, 9 February, was Safer Internet Day. With devices and popular social media platforms gaining in number, our children spend more time on the internet than in previous years. We suggest that all parents keep up to date with strategies on how to keep their children safer on the internet.

Resources to support conversations around the internet are available on the eSafety Commissioner Website.

Maths Grant

This year, our school has been fortunate enough to receive a $5,000 Money Smart Grant. We will be using the grant to develop our students’ financial literacy skills by exploring how financial systems (goods, services, money and markets) have changed over time. The project, will culminate at the end of Semester 1, with each of the PP- Yr. 6 classes creating a product/service to market. Students will be involved in market research, design, production, budgeting, trialling and projecting financial-gain. Our goal is to raise money to put towards our school’s Entrance Statement on our 120th anniversary.

As part of the project, we would like to invite parents that own/run a business to speak to students about how goods and services, money/bartering systems and sustainable practices have changed over time. We are also interested in parents who attended our school speaking to students about money changes they have noted from their childhood to now. We also acknowledge the multicultural nature of Australian society and would like to invite parents, who were born overseas to speak to their child’s class about their country of birth’s perspective of wealth, economics and family.

If you are available and are comfortable to speak to your child’s class or to a group of classes, please let your child’s teacher or Maureen French (Room 6) know.

We look forward to bringing you further information on our Money Smart initiative.
