Year 10 Careers Day

It’s been an exciting week in the careers space as we welcomed visitors to the school to chat to our Year 10 students about their career journey.  Today was Year 10 Careers Day, where students attended three 25 minute interactive sessions with professionals from a range of industries. Following this, students spent their Connect session working on their career action plan in My Career Portfolio.  This is important work, and is part of preparing students for the decisions they will make in term 3 regarding courses and subjects for 2022.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the members of our school and wider community who gave up their time to share their story with our students.  The feedback from students about the value of these sessions has been really positive. It’s a huge ask to give up a morning of your time, but we appreciate the willingness of people to do this for our students.  Thanks also to our teachers, who supervised and facilitated the sessions. It’s wonderful to have careers events running again!!

Year 9 Morrisby Program 2021

Year 9 students should now have all submitted their permission forms to participate in the Morrisby careers program.  The assessment session will be held Sessions 1 and 2 on Monday March 29th.  Students will have an opportunity to complete practice questions in the lead up to the assessment.  In late April all year 9 students who have completed their Morrisby assessment will have a one on one interview with an external careers practitioner to discuss their results.

Are your reading the weekly career news on myNorthcoteHigh?

As we head into a busy time in the careers space I would like to remind students (and families) in the Middle and Senior years to check out the weekly Career News on myNorthcoteHigh.  Go to the Careers page, and then to ‘Weekly Career News’.  To save time, you can scan the blog on the left hand side to locate key information included in each document.

Year 10 Work Experience

Work experience for Year 10 students is running from 17 -21 May.  Students should be proactively working towards finding a placement for that week.

Arranging Work Experience will be the focus in Connect classes this term, as well as completing the Occupational Health and Safety certifications.  The first deadline to secure your placement, and complete the arrangement form – including getting it signed by your employer – is the end of term one.

The process of finding a placement can be difficult, and often requires resilience, creative thinking, collaboration, innovation and problem solving… all very important employability skills!!  Much of the learning happens through the process of finding a placement.  My Northcote High has a plethora of information to guide and assist students through the process of finding a placement, and completing the paperwork.  Simply go to Careers and click on the Work Experience tab!!
