Year One

The Year One’s have had an amazing start to 2021. All of the students have been so excited to return to school, especially after remote learning. In the first few weeks of school we have covered lots of classroom expectations, being reminded about our Whole School Expectation Matrix and of course learning how to earn the highly sought after Respect, Responsibility and Resilience tokens. We have been so impressed with how quickly the children have gotten back into class routines.

In class, we have been learning about Good-Fit books in Reading and the 5-Finger Rule. We have also been revising all of our reading strategies, like Lips the Fish, Eagle Eye, Stretchy Snake and Chunky Monkey. We have even been able to Read Milo’s Birthday Surprise again!

In Writing, we have been learning about the structure of a Recount and we have also started our special Writer’s Notebook. The Year One’s have loved getting involved in the writing process and they have been busy brainstorming lots of ideas.

In Maths we have been learning about teen numbers and we have been focusing on 2D shapes. We have gone on shape hunts and we have created some fantastic shape animals.

Circle time and friendships have also been a big focus during Term One. We have seen a big difference in how the Year One’s are understanding different emotions and they are enjoying lessons on Respectful Relationships where we investigate different emotions and social skills.

We have had a wonderful start to the year and we can’t wait to see what else the Year One community achieves. Keep up the amazing work Year One!
