Around the Grounds

Fabulous Food!

Last Friday an amazing array of food was delivered to bless our staff at Busselton.

Down South Gospel Church rotate through local schools, providing a special morning tea as means of saying 'thank you' for the work of teachers and educators. This time it was Cornerstone's turn, and the spread was pretty impressive.

Thank you to Pastor Andy and the team for giving such a gift to us. We thank God for you!

Egg-selent Learning

Our newest ATAR students are off to a flying start, with the wonderful Mrs Haagensen sending these few images through.

'Year 11 ATAR Human Biology students practicing their Investigation skills while learning about osmosis & diffusion through the differentially permeable membrane of an egg.'

Looks fascinating, Year 11s!

Secondary Swimming Carnival

Friday's Secondary Swimming Carnival was overseen by Mrs Haagensen, who has seamlessly stepped back into life at Cornerstone after a few years away. Thanks Mrs H for the remarkable job you did.

Special mention of the students who were so enthusiastically taking part, the parents who came in support, and the staff for making it such a success.

Congratulations Benjamin on what was a VERY close win in the end.

It was a fun and colourful affair that Mrs Dodd managed to capture on camera.

Here's a few snaps for you to enjoy! Thanks Mrs Dodd!

There was also a new addition to the line up of events - synchronised swimming.  Here's Benjamin's contribution - a tribute to the Titanic movie.  Well done, all!

Primary Swimming Carnival

The Primary Swimming Carnival was blessed with a beautiful day at the pool - and we had a sea of parent helpers standing alongside staff to cheer on our aspiring swimmers.

Thanks Mr Meyerink for your amazing coordination of the event. We are so blessed to have you!

Well done, students for your endless enthusiasm, and to the parents assisting in so many ways.

Congratulations to all those students whose talent in the pool was a sight to behold.  So good to see your gifts being given a chance to shine.

Year 6 Assembly

The first Parent Primary Assembly was held last Friday, with the Year 6 class leading out with a wonderful reminder of our focus values for the year : Respect, Relationship and Responsibility.

Students presented a drama that was based around the Survivor television series, with teams needing to reflect values in their endeavors to win the competition. To close off their presentation, they sang Matthew West's song, 'Do Something'.

Well done, Mrs A and the Year 6 class. You were fabulous.

Cadet Capers

The Year 7 cadets have been working on teamwork and last week they were given an unusual challenge. Using newspaper and sticky tape each squad had to create their outfits for a wedding. The newspaper was literally flying as the students raced to assemble brides, groom and flower girl outfits. It was a lot of fun and impressive to see the six squads starting to really work as a team and forming new friendships.

Lions Youth of the Year

Josh Wittwer and Taneesha Hodsdon have represented the College in this year's Lions Youth of the Year project.  The program fosters the development of leadership skills through a competition that includes a formal five minute speech, impromptu speaking and an interview.  Cornerstone's candidates participated alongside students from McKillop, Busselton Senior and GMAS.   Josh and Taneesha have completed the two local rounds of the competition and Josh will be participating in the forthcoming regional competition.  We look forward to continuing our association with this competition.

Please contact Mr van der Tang if you are thinking about participating in the 2022 competition.

Paper Planes

Skills explored in the weekly House Period last week included Paper Plane making.

Some skill was clearly on show, as well as some students who may require some remedial paper plane making tuition :-)

A fantastically fun morning in the Secondary School.

Hello Possum!

Last newsletter we featured our resident dog, Billie. Today, we turn the focus to one of our many possums, spotted in the Apple Trees.

Thanks Janita (one of our Mums) for capturing this moment and sharing it with us. It's gorgeous.
