Why are we conducting this survey?

We know that Middle years is a critical stage in children’s development; a period in which major changes occur at multiple levels of a child’s life. The information you provide will help Council and our partners to support you and your middle years children through these changes. We want to better understand:

  • The extent to which current services meet the needs of current and future needs of middle years children (8- 12 year old’s) and their families
  • The role Council and partner organisations can play in meeting service deliverables to middle years children and their families in the municipality
  • The needs, requirements and aspirations of middle years children and their families as they transition from early years through to middle years and on to adolescents
  • The emerging and future needs of middle years children and their families within in the municipality
  • Opportunities to build meaningful partnerships with service providers, middle years children and their families

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Black Bean Breakfast Tacos

Filled with plenty of fiber and protein, these egg and black bean tacos are a great way to ensure you don't wind up hungry before lunchtime. Sauté the beans with garlic and onion the night before, so all you have to do in the morning is scramble the eggs!

HELPFUL TIPS WHEN PACKING SCHOOL LUNCHES

We can all struggle with trying to balance nutritious choices with what your child will actually eat. Staying organised by planning ahead and having a variety of fresh, fun and healthy ideas helps make life easier with school lunches.

It’s the best feeling to open that lunchbox at the end of the day and see that your kids love everything that you packed.

PLAN AHEAD

Make back to school lunches ahead of time at night and portion off any dried snacks that keep well on Sundays for the rest of the week.

MIX IT UP

Include a variety so your child doesn’t get bored. Switch things up and pair different snacks, fruits, carbs and protein. Leftovers like muffins, pasta salads or chilled sesame noodles are some great choices for school lunch.

KEEP THINGS FUN WITH SOME DIY “LUNCHABLES”

Allow your child to put together their own DIY pizzas or wraps with dips and sauces to make things interesting.

Yogurt, hummus, guacamole and salsa are great for adding flavor to vegetables and fruit.

FOOD SAFETY

Many items will keep at room temperature but be aware of which will require an ice pack to stay cool. Also make sure that you are aware of any peanut or other food restrictions.
