House Music Showtime
Each year House Music Showtime is a showcase of talent in each House. Each House works out the music and the choreography that they will then teach the other members of their House. Student spend lunchtimes rephrasing during the term and perform it at Assembly as part of a House competition.
This year Nelson ended up the winner. A huge congratulations to the 7 students that performed. They worked really hard as a group.
Harry Potter
Students in year 5/6 had the opportunity to experience Harry Potter and the Cursed Child behind the scenes and on stage. On Wednesday, 14th June students caught the train into the city to watch the play. The excitement was buzzing in anticipation for what the students were about to watch.
Students visited the Treasury Gardens beforehand and sat and had something to eat. We walked into the remodelled Princess Theatre and sat in our seats. Students were looking around the stage waiting for magic to occur.
As the story unfolded the technical aspects of the theatre left us amazed and in ore. Some of which we still cannot work out. In the weeks leading up to watching the show we were given the opportunity to watch a rehearsal of Harry Potter where they showed us backstage as well as how some of the stage magic happens. We learnt about costumes and props and how they run a dance rehearsal as well as running a scene.
At the end of the performance we were part of a Q and A with the cast members. We spoke with the director, the two main characters, a swing cast member, one of the ensemble members and the technical director. This really gave us an insight into how much work and time goes into putting on a major production.
Students came back with so much excitement and questions about the theatre. It was a wonderful event showcasing the theatre and how we can be taken into another world on the stage.
