Wai Chim Author Visit

Calrossy had a visit from award winning Chinese-American-Australian, Wai Chim, this week. Wai is the author of a number of children’s and young adolescence titles, including the Chook Chook series, Freedom Swimmer and most recently, The Surprising Power of a Good Dumpling, which was a Kirkus Prize Finalist in the US and was Shortlisted for the Prime Minister Literary Awards in 2020.

Born to immigrant parents in New York, Wai grew up speaking Cantonese at home and brings a lot of her diasporic identity into her work . She spent some time living in Japan before making Australia her permanent home. In addition to writing, Wai works as a Business System Analyst for The Starlight Children's Foundation. Wai addressed our Year 10 students speaking about writing, culture and identity, and conducted a writing workshop with students. The acclaimed author also spoke to students in Secondary on our William Cowper Campus, providing tips and insights into the writing process and her experience.

Careers Tour

How's this for motivated! A small group of Calrossy Year 12 students gave up some of their holidays to travel to Queenlsland for the most recent Uni Tour organised by Calrossy Careers. It was a busy four days spent visiting University of Southern Queensland - Australia, The University of Queensland, Southern Cross University Griffith University and Bond University. The students enjoyed informative and interactive tours of the campuses and faculties plus gained a valuable insight into uni life with on campus accommodation. Thanks to Mr Impey for organising this interesting trip.
