Principal's Report

Hello everyone,

Thank you for the great start to Semester 2.

We welcome new staff Annie Hobson (Administration), Marilyn Stebbings (Administration), Angela McCabe (Science), Sophie Collins (PDHPE), Shane Vesey-Wells (Science) and Hamish Sparke (ICT Support). We are lucky to recruit quality teaching and support staff in these difficult recruiting times.

Thank you to Leah Jones for her six years of excellent work at McCarthy. Leah is now working for the Catholic Schools Office, overseeing student attendance processes across the Diocese. We wish Leah well.

Our best wishes are also extended to Joelle Davey who we farewelled recently.  Joelle has returned to Queensland to be closer to her family and continue her teaching.  We thank Joelle for her contribution to McCarthy this year.

The start of Semester 2 is a very good time to review how learning and school are going, and to have another look at student Learning Plans that were written in Semester 1. A conversation at home about work habits and learning goals will reinforce the focus on working to make each Term and Semester an improvement on the one just gone. Here is the Learning Plan scaffold.

You have seen this before and I include it to remind you of its use as a starting point for a conversation about how learning is going.

The best indicator of how a student will progress in a particular year of learning is how they are progressing in the second semester of the year before. Please continue to talk up the value of learning and the benefits of a successful learning pathway.

All the best,

Rod Whelan

Principal
