Assistant Principal's Message

Mr Luke Fletcher

It has been another great fortnight as Acting Assistant Principal and I have had numerous opportunities to see the amazing work being completed in classrooms and our school values being on display in the playground. I have loved having students bring me their informative writing (especially Ming and Jemima from 2B) and getting to witness the tech skills of our Minecraft Club members (such as Hamza and Arjun). Well done to all of the Maths Competition participants! I roamed the room proudly and noticed some amazing problem-solving skills in action, and huge resilience being shown (in particular Minka 5C and Penelope 3C).

Bookweek

It is that exciting time of the year again when we are preparing our school for Book Week. As part of the week to celebrate our students’ love for literacy, The Book Week Dress Up Day will be on the Wednesday, 23rd. We are also fortunate enough, thanks to the work of our Literacy Specialist Sam Pallas, to have booked an Author Visit for Friday, 25th of August. Lucinda Gifford will be speaking to our students about the joys of being a writer and the things that influenced her love of books.  Her books can be found here: https://www.lucindagiffordbooks.com/books, and we have purchased a number of her books for borrowing through our school library.

Online Safety

In an age where technology is a huge part of daily life, it is crucial for us as parents and educators to be vigilant in monitoring our children's use of digital devices. While technology offers numerous educational and entertainment opportunities, it also presents certain challenges that we must address together.

The responsibility of monitoring our children's technology use primarily falls on us as teachers, parents and guardians. By actively supervising the content they access, the amount of time they spend online, and the nature of their interactions, we can guide them towards healthy and responsible technology habits. It's crucial to have open conversations about internet safety, the importance of respectful online behaviour, and the potential risks associated with sharing personal information.

The esafety website has some great resources to support parents with strategies and conversation starters to have with children at home. Please follow this link to find access to useful videos and resources which can be translated to a range of languages: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/resources/online-safety-for-every-family.

By fostering a healthy relationship with technology from an early age, we can equip our children with the skills they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Let's work together to guide them towards making positive choices online and offline.

Have a wonderful week!

Luke Fletcher
