Primary School
From the Head of Primary
Thank you to Mokare House for a wonderful fundraising day today. The Primary School students embraced the ‘hint of green’ theme and helped raised money for Mokare’s charity - The Waalitj Foundation. Well done, Ms Nichols, for flying the PS flag during the staff vs teachers netball game. Our Primary School is feeling light on numbers this week with our Year Five class away in Pemberton on camp. Many viruses are also circulating our classes; thank you for keeping your children home whilst they recover and sending through the absentee forms. We look forward to a full and healthy Primary School soon. Last Friday our Year Four students led the Primary School assembly, showcasing their wonderful learning. Thank you, Year Four and Ms Nichols, for your entertaining and informative performance. Your suspense writing was exceptional.
Kiddo
Our ECC staff are currently brushing up on their physical literacy skills ready to roll out our new fundamental movement skills programme - Kiddo. ECC families will soon receive logins to KIDDO where you can access your child’s assessments, and activities you can do to help them meet their learning goals. This is an incredibly exciting programme and I thank the teachers and education assistants for giving up many hours of their time to upskill themselves in this area. Once the training and planning have been completed, we will begin our mornings completing this valuable programme as a whole ECC cohort. Students will continue their learning during physical education sessions with Mr Berryman.
Year Five Camp – Pemberton
What a way to start our camp! Our fabulous Year Five students were excited to be adventuring into the unknown together. Our bus trip was full of card games, ‘get to know you’ questions and super cute snooze times. At our waypoint in Manjimup, we braved the soggy slide, flew on the fox, spun with the spinner, and weaved in the web! Once safely on Pemberton soil, we sussed out our new ‘digs’ by setting up our dorms, exploring the recreation room and playground. We were challenged in some team/drama games on arrival too. Bellies were filled with chicken curry and the crowd favourite: ice cream sundaes. Minute-to-win it saw us dressing Mr B and Miss L in toilet roll outfits, chopsticking up coco pops, scoring goals, and tooting poppers. And this was only day one!
The students have an exciting week of mountain biking, archery, canoeing and team building games ahead and I look forward to sharing the final four editions of the Pemberton Trek Voyager next week.
Year Six Civics and Citizenship Inquiry
Our Year Six students have been inquiring into ‘How the World Works’ this past eight weeks. They have looked into the structure of Australia’s system of government and what it means to be a citizen of Australia. After taking the citizenship test themselves and inquiring into the process of becoming a migrant to citizen, they began the process of designing their own citizenship test, interview and ceremonies. Last term, we were blessed with members of our parent and staff community offering their services with our history/migration inquiry. It was wonderful to have them come back in this week to participate in our citizenship ceremonies. The students prepped their subjects with brochures and letters informing them of all they needed to know before completing their ceremonies on Monday. A huge thank you to our volunteers for making this assessment a more authentic one.
Year Three Japanese - making omusubi (rice balls) in Nihongo
We have been learning about the Japanese folktale Omusubi Kororin (The Rolling Riceball) and learning to tell it in Nihongo with hand gestures. Last week students had a go at making omusubi. Thanks, Mrs Jaeckel, for this wonderful language experience.
