From the Chaplain

Over the last two weeks, my VACS group has been learning about rowing with Mr Colton. He was in many rowing races when he was in High School.  He explained to the group that there are eight rowers in the boat and a person at the back called a coxswain.  The coxswain does not row but tells the rowers how to row and what is coming up.  Mr Colton said that the coxswain’s voice is a soothing, calming voice amongst the nerves and hype of the race.  The voice is something to focus on.  He explained that in a race once, he experienced lactic acid overload from the extreme, physical activity of rowing.  He started to not see properly, but the voice of the coxswain helped him not to panic and keep pushing through.

The Coxswain can be related to God and the bible verse from Proverbs 3:5-6.

"Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don't try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for God's voice in everything you do and everywhere you go; he's the one who will keep you on track."

We may have a big day or week to get through, or a tough life experience where all we can see and hear is chaos around us.  In the middle of this is God, telling us where to go and being that calm, encouraging inner voice that is saying, ‘I've got this, I will never leave you, you're doing great, keep going, you are nearly there.’
