Coastal Soccer

Our Year 7 and 8 junior soccer teams showed great commitment to the game in the recent Coastal Soccer competition, playing against Apollo Bay and the Coastal team.

The first game of the day was an auspicious start, with our Year 8 girls going against their CSC peers. It was a great game with both teams giving it their all, resulting in a draw of 0-0. Our Year 7 boys were up next against CSC and we were down until the second half when the boys played their hearts out to lift the game back to a 2-2 draw – a fantastic effort.

The Year 7 girls then came up against the Coastal side and played very well to end with the third straight draw for the day. Next up were the Year 8 boys against the Coastal team; our boys notched us up on the winner’s board by scoring 6-0.

After a well-deserved lunch break, our Year 7 girls played a hard-fought game against Apollo Bay, which gave us another win of 1-0. The Year 8 girls were up for the second game of their day and gave it their all but just couldn’t come away with the win against the Coastal girls, losing by only 0-1. Our Year 7 boys then came out for their last game, going up against the Coastal Year 8 boys with a final score of 2-0.

The last game of the day came down to the CSC Year 8 girls against our Year 7 girls. Our girls just couldn’t come away with the win but they produced an amazing effort against the older girls, losing the last game of the day 0-1.

We thank everyone for their participation and congratulations to three of our teams – the Year 7 boys, Year 8 boys and Year 7 girls – for making it through to the next stage to play in Ballarat on 2 August.

Cross Country

Five Trinity College athletes gave it their all at the State Cross Country event in Melbourne, competing against the best of the best in a tough field.

Running the 3km, Reagan Oborne finished 58th with a time of 12:54, Harmony Parker came 53rd in 15:36, and Izaac Tate finished 22nrd with a great time of 12:01.

Two of our older boys competed in the 5km run with Tom Frampton coming over the line in 64th position with a time of 20:12 and Jack Fish finishing eighth with a time of 20:12 – a sensational effort against some incredible talent.

Congratulations to our competitors for representing our College with such distinction and committing to personal excellence.

Netball Victoria School Championships

This week, Trinity College Colac Senior, Intermediate A and Year 8 girls’ netball teams competed in the prestigious Netball Victoria School Championships against schools from across the whole of Victoria with some incredible talent on display. It is common to see past or even current Australian netball players coaching teams, and our girls were excited to be at the State Netball Centre in Parkville to achieve their best.

The tournament is run over 15 days and schools play in a round robin tournament on one of these days. The winner in each division on each day qualifies through to the finals to compete for the title of State Champion.

The senior girls played in four games throughout the day, with a bye scheduled for their last round. They started with a hard fought 21-19 win against Peninsula Grammar and followed that up with a comfortable 19-6 win against Star of the Sea. Round 3 against Whittlesea was the toughest game of the day with the lead regularly changing. It was a highly skilled, physical game that ended in a draw. In their last game of the day, Trinity faced Methodist Ladies College and they continued their good form by running away with the win 18-10.

The three victories and one draw placed the side in equal first position. They watched the last round unfold, hoping for specific results so that they could take first place outright. Unfortunately, Whittlesea managed a tight win in their last game which resulted in the Trinity senior side finishing in second place due to percentage and therefore not progressing through to the next stage. The senior girls played exceptional netball all day against elite opposition and exemplified everything we aimed for. They are skillful, hardworking, excellent representatives of the school on and off the court and support and challenge one another to achieve success. They may have missed out on moving through to the finals but they will come together again for one more tournament when they compete in the School Sport Victoria Finals later this year.

The Intermediate A side played in five games across the day. The Inters settled into the tournament well with a solid 18-12 goal win against a very competitive Ruyton, and they continued that form with comfortable wins in their second and third rounds, defeating Star of the Sea 14-5 and then St Mary’s 19-7. Their fourth-round game was set to be a very important game with MLC sitting in first position on the ladder and Trinity sitting in second. The Trinity girls stood up to the pressure and after a tight first few minutes, they broke the game open and ran away with a 15-7 win, moving them in to first position on the ladder. The Inters moved into their last game of the day knowing that their fate was in their own hands. They only needed to win their last game against Peninsula to secure their top position finish. The girls started slowly, taking the first half to settle and really find their form. However, once they did, the flood gates opened and they scored freely for the remainder of the game with defenders taking continuous intercepts and goalers finding easy avenues to goal. The score blew out to a very comfortable 25-6 win, which allowed them to finish the day undefeated, sitting clear on top of the ladder.

The Inters will now progress to the state finals day on Tuesday 29 August. This is an incredible achievement that the girls should be very proud of. They have been working hard during weekly trainings and this was evident during their games. The standard of netball that they produced across the entire day was excellent and we are eager to see them challenge themselves further come finals day.

The youngest side in attendance was our Year 8 team and they also participated in five games at this tournament. They asserted themselves on the competition early, defeating Ruyton 22-9 in their first game of the day, and continued this dominant form in their next two games, beating Korowa 25-6 and then St Mary’s 27-2. The Trinity girls had established themselves as the team to beat and they did not once lose focus of their goal, taking one game at a time and each individually performing the tasks assigned to them. Their fourth-round match against MLC was the match of the day and the Trinity girls were challenged throughout the entire first half. They re-grouped at half time and implemented a few different strategies in the second half, which resulted in them taking control of the game and earning a 19-15 goal win. The way the girls handled the pressure during this game and responded by finding another level to rise to was really impressive and showed a great level of maturity and commitment by the team. The Year 8 team played Peninsula in their last game and there was no evidence of fatigue even after a full day of netball. They fittingly finished the competition with their biggest win of the day, 32-6, cementing their top spot finish and a ticket through to the State finals.

The talent, maturity and work ethic that these girls have shown throughout trainings and during the tournament is impressive. They set high expectations and standards for themselves and each other and this is helping each of them become the best netballers that they can be. We are extremely excited to see what this team of Year 8 girls can produce at their State finals on 5 September.

Overall, it was an incredibly successful day for Trinity with all coaching staff involved very proud of the girls’ performances and excited for the future. Congratulations to all of the students involved – they were excellent representatives of our College.

Our Senior boys, Intermediate B and Year 7 teams will be attending their qualifying day of this tournament on 2 August and we wish them all luck.
