Choosing their path

Selecting subjects on the learning journey

Subject selections have been in full swing for students from Years 9 through to 12 with counselling, information sessions and interviews providing as much clarity as we can for this sometimes confusing and anxious time.

It is important to remember that the process of choosing subjects for their future study pathway is a part of the process of being accountable and resilient learners at Trinity College. From Year 7, our students are gaining a solid understanding of what it is to be a learner and developing their talents and skills. In Year 8 students are invited to actively participate and commit to their learning journey, and by Year 9 have been provided with the framework that supports them with the challenges of the future. They know how to learn, why they learn and who can help.

Of course, this doesn’t mean the ‘I don’t know what I want to do’ conversation won’t happen. In reality, the careers of our children will take many trajectories and perhaps those jobs don’t even exist yet. This is why being responsible for their own learning is so important, and the act of examining and exploring the subject selection is a fantastic part of this. Whether our students are committed to university or vocational pathways or plan to exit school into the workforce, we want them to be in the best possible place to launch into the future.

An education at Trinity builds character, skills and knowledge so that our graduates can go out and make a difference. We are walking alongside our parents on this journey, and we thank you for your support with the holistic education of our future leaders, employers, partners, parents and global citizens.
