Principal's Update

Rachel McGennisken

It has been a whirlwind start to our Term 3 and I have been relishing the numerous activities that celebrate the diversity of our students’ interests. Art, music, sport and academics have all been under the spotlight and our students have been taking it all in their stride.

Our drama and dance students have been filling the Jubilee Centre auditorium with joy as they rehearse for the upcoming College production of The Addams Family. It is so much fun to see them get into their roles and provide the essential support as cast and crew members. Our Maintenance team and versatile Arts staff have produced an incredible set that has transformed the space into the kooky family’s mansion – I’m afraid I’ve been sworn to secrecy and can’t tell you anything except it will definitely be an evening of song and dance to remember. You can still get tickets through our website and I hope to see you there.

Speaking of an evening to remember, on Wednesday night the Trinity community turned out to see the Elliminations play at the Colac Bowls Club. Elvis was definitely in the house, supported by smooth backup singers and quality musicians. It was a night showcasing the outstanding talent of our musicians and a special thanks to Mr Stephen Gill, Ms Kelly Kerr and Ms Grace Wiedemann for their inspiration, guidance and enthusiasm. Thank you also to the Colac Bowls Club for the welcoming space and delicious dinner, and to our wonderful community for supporting these events. There was not one person there who wasn’t impressed with the performance. I loved it and enjoyed every minute.

Visual Arts has also been busy and an opportunity for students who are passionate about art to further develop their skills has been provided with an Art Guild every Wednesday during Break 1. Getting into the studio can be so therapeutic and quite a haven during our chilly days! Thank you to Mrs Jennifer Colbron for her commitment and support of our young artists.

In sporting news, congratulations to our Senior Boys Netball team who have made State Finals, and our Intermediate and Year 8 teams who are through to the Netball Victoria Championships! Well done also to our Intermediate and Senior Basketball teams who have made it through to the Greater Western competition. Congratulations to all of our other sporting teams who have achieved great success across the winter season and represented our College with pride.

There are 27 Japanese students and two teachers arriving today and we look forward to embracing this opportunity to build connections and share stories. Our visitors will be engaged in College activities and staying with local host families, so please make them feel a part of our community when you see them out and about.

Subject selections and interviews for Years 9 to 11 have been rolling out this term and we thank our families for their support with this important process. It is an exciting time for students to explore their future and be accountable for their learning so they can achieve their goals. I urge you to reach out to your child’s Homeroom Mentor, Year Level Coordinator or our Director of Learning, Ms Libby Ryan, if you would like to discuss any questions or concerns you may have.

We are constantly seeking ways to do things better and improve any aspect of our school. With this in mind, a School Improvement Survey was randomly sent out to 100 of our families that provides valuable information to help ensure we offer the best learning experiences and environment for your children. Thank you to our community who have sent back the survey – if you have yet to get around to it, please take a few minutes to complete the questionnaire. It really plays a significant part in our planning processes over the next few years.

Lastly, as we head into the weekend, it would be remiss of me not to mention how much I am looking forward to the senior students’ social event of the year – the College Ball. The glamour, the fun, the occasion, the venue – it is a wonderful rite of passage that creates lifelong memories. The Year 11 and 12 students have been engaged in hours of dance practice during iLeap sessions and we look forward to seeing them shine on the dance floor. A huge thank you to our Vocational Pathway students who have done a magnificent job of building and painting decorations to make the evening truly memorable. I am looking forward to seeing our families there and sharing in this wonderful celebration for our Classes of 2023 and 2024.
