Mary MacKillop's Feast Day

Next Tuesday, 8 August, 2023 we will celebrate Mary MacKillop's feast Day with a liturgy in the church at 11:30am. Everyone is welcome to join us!

Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop is Australia’s first saint. We will remember the goodness of Mary’s life, a life she dedicated to Jesus and to giving a Catholic education especially to the poor. We will give thanks for her work and we will strive to follow her example in order to be a disciple of Jesus.

Mary Mac's Mufti Day and Gold Coin donation

Bishop Anthony's Vision for us is to work as one: as a Body of Christ and as one community of the Church of Broken Bay.

All primary schools in the Diocese have been asked to participate in a gold coin donation mufti day (when students are invited to wear casual clothes and sneakers) on Tuesday, 8 August, 2023, which is Mary MacKillop's Feast Day.

The focus of the initiative is Mary Mac's Place, which is located on the Central Coast. Mary Mac's is a community kitchen and drop-in centre open to anyone who is homeless, transient or needing a helping hand. They do not receive any formal funding. The work is only able to continue through the generosity of the community in providing donations.

In Australia, there are over 116, 000 people experiencing homelessness on any given night and this project supports over 3,000 clients each year alone and Mary Mac's Place costs over $150 000 per year to run and provides more than 24 000 meals a year. More importantly, they provide connection, value and belonging without judgement.

For more information on the services that Mary Mac's Place provides, you can visit their website: www.catholiccaredbb.org.au/mmp

Thank you for your continued support with building the Kingdom of God at Holy Family.

Kind regards

Liana Stella
