1/2 K
Ed in Faith
Last week the 1/2 children attended Mass at the Parish. The children were so reverent and read some beautiful prayers they had written in class about the groups of people they would like to prayer for. Here are some of their prayers
Then on Thursday night the junior families had an opportunity to share in our wonderful Prayers in Pyjamas event. The children sang a beautiful song and reflected over the night about being thankful and grateful for the wonderful things in their lives. Thank you to all who attended it was a beautiful night.
Writing
In 1/2 the student shave been working on creating an imaginative narrative about their exciting excursion to Twisted Science. The children have taken inspiration from the magic school bus stories where the class always goes on crazy adventures with their teacher.
The children begun by planning some of the main details of their story such as the main characters, location inside twisted science, the problem and solution.
Next the children wrote their narratives in small parts focusing on the introduction, problem and finally the solution.
Once we had written our stories we spent time finding the nouns and adding adjectives before the nouns to make our stories more descriptive.
Look at the wonderful stories the children have written.
Mathematics
In Maths the children have begun to explore multiplication. The children read the book bears on wheels focusing on the number of bears (group) on the bikes. You can read the story by clicking the picture below.
Then the children made their own equal groups of bears on bikes using a bike template, counters and a 6 sided dice.
The children used different strategies to find the total (product) number of bears on the bikes.
Some children used skip counting
e.g. 3, 6, 9, 12
Some children used repeated addition
e.g. 3+3+3+3=12
Some children used multiplicative thinking
4 groups of 3 is 12
Look at the fabulous work they have completed as they build their mathematical understanding of multiplication.
