Literacy

We have been focusing on our word choices again when writing. We played a simple dice game where each number rolled matched a different word e.g. noun, adjective, verb, adverb and propositional phrase. We then practiced writing really detailed sentence to further enhance our writing. We then practiced this skill by using picture prompts to write more lengthy pieces of writing. 

Maths

Over the last few weeks we have been investigating decimal and fractions. We have now moved on to Financial Maths, learning about adding and subtracting money, considering how percentage discounts work and how to calculate them, and then we will move to budgeting for expenses. 

During this activity, students were asked to estimate how many times their height, the circumference of their head was. We had estimates anywhere from 2 to 20 times. As it turns out, our investigation showed us that it is usually between 2 ½to 3 ½times!  

Inquiry

We've begun our investigation into the Gold Rush in Victoria during the 1850s and the impact it had on the fledgling colony of Victoria. The children have had first hand experience of staking a claim, and fossicking for gold. They've also suffered the injustices at the time, including having to pay for Miner's Licenses, and undergoing regular checks. Some of them found their license had expired and were fined!

The Hub visit with Miss Renee

Miss Renee has now started her Maternity Leave where we are so excited to hear the news about her new baby.

On her last day, Miss Renee took us into The Hub and showed us the changes that have been made to the area. We were reminded of the Zones of Regulation - Green, Yellow, Blue and Red. We were also reminded that The Hub is a place we can go if we are feeling heightened or require some help and time in calming down. 

AFL Clinic

The children had fun, when they were part of an AFL Clinic last week.

Aneeta & Liam's talents

Aneeta and Liam (and some other past and present SFX students) participated in a performance to help celebrate their Church's Anniversary. Liam was Adam and Aneeta was Eve and they showed off their amazing acting skills as they performed a version of The Creation story, particularly what occurred on the 7th day. 

We watched some of their video and they shared this experience with us.
