Japanese
Year 3 & 4 students have been working hard to learn about Japanese seasons as well as the sentence structure to say ‘In winter, I do/see/eat …’ in Japanese. Research shows that understanding different sentence strctures also enhances one’s first language literacy. Whenever we discuss this topic, students impress me with their observations on the similarities and differences between Japanese and English languages. Keep up the great work YR3&4!

Year 5 & 6 have been learning how to read/write and say bigger numbers in Japanese this term. Asian languages can help students understand number place values because of the number naming system they use. Thinking and decoding numbers in Japanese stimulates their cognitive capacity, beyond pure language and intercultural skills.
