Grade 3/4 Students

Celebrating our tremendous Threes and fabulous Fours!

Literacy

We have continued our work on Persuasive Writing, weekly oral reading fluency (which we are doing in pairs 3 times a week) and rich text exploration with deep dives into new and interesting vocabulary. Students have also loved identifying similes and metaphors in texts.

Any chance we get, we are also writing quick sentences that allow us to reflect on our learning whilst also practising any new sentence structures we have been focusing on. Please see a sample of a few students who were able to construct compound sentences whilst reflecting on their experiences of learning a new maths game.

Maths

Building on from our strong multiplication base, we have been revising and expanding our knowledge of perimeter and area. Lots of opportunities for group investigations and rich discussions were had as we created rugs out of newspaper and then re modelled these to fit in new spaces.

Thanks to the teachers learning a few new tricks on Curriculum Day this week, we've also enjoyed a few more challenging maths games.

Wellbeing

As part of our unit on help seeking, students have worked in pairs or small groups to plan and write a short story about an animal that requires help, goes searching for it, fails initially and then tries again, and finally finds the help that is needed. This has been a task that children have just loved! They have spent time carefully planning and drawing images that depict emotions and body language during the process of seeking help and assistance.
