Grade 2 Students

Celebrating our terrific Twos!

Literacy

In Reading, we have been learning all about summarising using the somebody, wanted, but, so, then model. Students have loved creating summaries of their favourite books. This week we are moving into some fluency practice in the classroom. We are starting paired reading to help practise our fluency each day and we are working on giving constructive feedback to our partner. We are excited to see how this helps us improve our reading skills. Our Writing has been tied in with our integrated focus on materials. Last week we wrote an experiment on how to create a strong boat. Students took great pride in creating their own hypothesis and then testing it out in our integrated sessions, where they made their boats and tested each boat's strength.

Maths

Our Maths has been focused on multiplication and division. Students have participated in many hands-on activities and practised making equal groups. We have recently moved into representing multiplication and division as arrays. Students loved creating different craft-based pieces to show their knowledge, from using the windows on city skylines to creating chocolate boxes. We look forward to continuing to link our multiplication and division knowledge in the coming weeks.

Respectful Relationships

Over the past few weeks, we have been looking at what makes a good team member and how we can work cooperatively. This has been put to the test in our integrated lessons where we have worked in small groups to undertake multiple experiments.
