Book Parade - Week 7 (next week)
Aptly, the library opening coincides with our annual Book Week celebrations, based on the theme ‘read, grow and inspire’. Our annual Book Parade will occur on Wednesday, 23rd August at 9.10am in the outside assembly area. We have a guest MC for the parade - a local author, Rohan Cleaves, a zookeeper at Zoos Victoria. His books include Phasmid, Bouncing Back, and On the Trail of the Plains-wanderer. He has received CBCA Shortlist and Notable listings, a Wilderness Society's Environment Award for Children's Literature and a RZS NSW Whitley Award for Children's Natural History Book. We are looking forward to the costume character extravaganza for this year!
Book Fair - Week 7 (next week)
The Scholastic Book Fair will be here next week - commencing Thursday, 24th August. All students will be given an opportunity to view the books on sale with their classes on Thursday, and write a wishlist. Parents will be emailed QR codes to purchase books on their child’s wishlist. Students will again be given time to return to the book fair on Friday, where they can collect their purchased books and/or purchase any others.
Lily’s Library - Week 7 (next week)
We are very happy that later next week, our refurbished new library will be opening. After a small celebration with the Whitney family on Wednesday morning, which is also Lily’s birthday, we will have all grades timetabled into the space to enjoy the new books, shelving and comfortable reading nooks. Families are invited to have a walk through before the Movie Night, next Friday from 5.30pm.

School Production Ticket Sales - Week 9
There is palpable excitement in the air as we are only 3 weeks away now from the performance evenings on Wednesday, 6th and Thursday, 7th September at 6.30pm. Tickets are now on sale here. All tickets are $15. (Children aged 4 and over will require their own seat.) Please note there is a maximum of 4 tickets per family due to the venue’s capacity limit. We will also be selling videos of the production each night- you can order your copy here.
Curriculum Day
The staff had a productive day on Monday working on a variety of tasks. We completed first aid updates in the morning, participated in some literacy and numeracy professional
learning and enjoyed some valuable time for teams to plan together. These full days of professional learning, collaboration and collegiality are important for a school staff team and are of great benefit to all.
Community Memorial Service
Our school captains, Celina and Joel, represented the school at the Diamond Valley Vietnam Veterans Community Memorial Service on Saturday, laying a wreath on behalf of the school community. The students respectfully listened to an address from Duncan Duke, the Sub-Branch president and other guest speakers. The school received a letter of thanks from the Sub-Branch expressing their gratitude to the school captains for their attendance.
District Athletics
Congratulations to our team of 37 students who travelled to Epping this week to participate in the District Athletics Carnival. The Monty spirit was very evident with a lot of cheering, support and encouragement from the students and families in attendance. Congratulations to everyone who participated, with our school finishing in 3rd place overall - a fabulous achievement. Best of luck to the students who qualified to compete at Division level.
Future Planning
It is very important for the school to be aware of any students who won't be attending Monty Primary in 2024, other than those who will be moving on to high school. If this applies to your family, can you please let us know by emailing the school at montmorency.ps@education.vic.gov.au.
Take care, everyone,
