Women in Sports
An inspiring new book telling the stories of fifty women athletes from the 1800s to today, by the New York Times bestselling author of Women in Science. The book is brimming with colourful illustrations also by Ignotofsky.
Sam Kerr
To continue the momentum and excitement of the World Cup, another new book to our library is: ‘My Journey to the World Cup’ published by Simon & Schuster.
The publisher writes: “This is Sam Kerr’s incredible football journey to the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, from making the switch from Aussie Rules as a kid to soccer and becoming one of the best female strikers in the world. Sam gives us insights into what keeps her motivated, how she handles the pressures of life as a professional athlete and what she believes is important in life. Inside you will find:
- facts about the FIFA World Cup
- everything you want to know about the Matildas
- amazing facts about Sam – her early days, family life, teams, playing for Chelsea and the Matildas.
What Makes a Matilda
Ever wondered what it takes to be one of Australia's top female footballers?
What Makes a Matilda “showcases the players and their stories; chronicling the history of our national women's football team; advice for aspiring football stars eager to learn what makes a Matilda, from practical drills to the Matilda mentality. Learn about players like Sam Kerr, Ellie Carpenter, Mary Fowler and more”, writes publisher Penguin Random House. The book also includes behind-the-scenes insight into the Matildas' training camps, a look at the ParaMatildas and the Junior and Young Matildas, and the journey of bringing the FIFA World Cup to Australia 2023.
