Cybersafety

During our Protective Behaviours Program (PBP) over the past fortnight, both Year 7 and 8 cohorts have engaged in discussion and learning activities around Cybersafety, specifically internet awareness, online abuse and bullying, mobile phone safety, and cybersafety and the law.

With an ever-changing online landscape and increase in numbers of young people accessing the internet, it is important for us as parents and educators to have an understanding of how to help our young people to have positive online experiences.

However, it can often be difficult to know where to start. The eSafety Commissioner has published a website offering parents and educators practical skills and advice in understanding challenges and tackling the big issues. The site contains tabs specifically aimed at children and young people which help them to stay safe online.

Found here https://www.esafety.gov.au, the site includes access to webinars and downloadable resources like fact sheets and family tech agreements.

Information has also been shared with students in these year groups about the need to keep their school account secure. They have been reminded not to share their password and to change it if they know someone else knows it, to use Seqta and Direqt Message responsibly and to always communicate respectfully in online conversations with their friends.

Week in the Wilderness

As we reach the midpoint of the school term, our Year 9 and 10 students continue to impress us with their enthusiasm and dedication to learning.

Our Year 10 students had an exceptional time on camp this week. The activities allowed students to create memories through their shared experiences. Many laughs were had between students and staff, from conquering challenges to fostering teamwork, the camp was an unforgettable experience.

The Year 10 students are also currently navigating the crucial course selection process for their Year 11 subjects, a pivotal step in shaping their educational journey. With guidance from our experienced counsellors and teachers, they are carefully considering their options and making choices that will impact their future schooling.

The Year 9 students continue to amaze us with their dedication and talent. A round of applause to those shining on the stage in the upcoming Puffs production – your hard work shines brighter than any spotlight. Equally impressive are our young athletes, training tirelessly for the upcoming ACC Athletics Carnival.

As we head into the second half of the term students are reminded to stay organised and manage their time effectively to make the most of their academic endeavours. With assignments, projects, and assessments lining up, implementing a well-structured study schedule can greatly alleviate stress and ensure a smoother learning experience.

Study and Life Balance

As we navigate the final stretch of the school year, I want to address a topic that has been brought up previously: balancing study and life. Year 12 is a demanding time, filled with academic challenges and personal growth. Finding a happy medium between these two aspects of life is essential for success and wellbeing.

Striking the right balance starts with creating a schedule. Planning your week in advance can help you allocate time for both study and leisure activities. Stick to the timetable as much as possible, but don't forget to include some downtime for hobbies, friends, and relaxation. Setting realistic goals is also crucial. Break down your study tasks into manageable chunks, allowing for steady progress without feeling overwhelmed.

Taking care of yourself is equally important. Eating well, exercising, and getting enough sleep are vital for your health and wellbeing, so don't neglect them. Engaging in activities you enjoy outside of study can provide a much-needed break and keep you energised.

Whether it's teachers or fellow students, remember that we’re here to help, so make sure you reach out if you're feeling the pressure.
