Production Update

Counting down to PUFFs

Magical memories

As we edge mightily close to a night of mischief and magic, production director Ms Jess McGaw recaps the antics of Production Camp. Tickets are selling fast, so don't miss your place at PUFFS!

Production Camp: Day 1

The excitement and generosity, from both students and volunteers, was extraordinary. Mrs Taylor and Mr Newton, and various other creative volunteers, including Adam Taylor, Janelle Barnes, Lucy Montgomery, and Jacqueline Bisley. Adam, Lucy and Jacqueline worked tirelessly with the creative team and crew to complete props and set design work for the production, so that the students would have these props to trial for the remaining camp rehearsals. Janelle worked tenaciously, sewing all of the badges on the ensemble costumes. We began brainstorming stylistic choices for the costume designer role, including innovative organisational approaches and other important costume design adaptations.

Students approached rehearsals with zest and professionalism. Puffs Ensemble leader, Sophie Gardner, and the ensemble leaders Alicia Gregory and Joss Walker took command of running through the scenes. Act I was completed in an hour and 20 minutes.

From a director’s point of view, it is astonishing to see the growth of student dedication and commitment in every single rehearsal.

I would also like to give a special mention to Isla Andrews and Juliet Andrews, as they kindly baked delicious yellow cupcakes for the whole cast to enjoy at the end of rehearsals.

Day 2

Mr Newton, Mr Davy and Mrs Taylor loaded all of the props onto the trolleys and brought them over to the studio. The rehearsal started off with a team-building activity of the Human Knott. We then moved onto Act II. A special shout out goes to the creative team and crew for their work during this rehearsal. I have never seen a backstage crew so adaptable and organised during a first full run through of a show.

Day 3

Students completed a full run of the entire show. Again, the students worked to coordinate routines and crew support systems that ensure a smooth running show. The students in costume and using the allocated props really brought the show to life and gave myself and the volunteers a snapshot of the incredible show to come.

PUFFS is a warm, welcoming and family friendly show, and we look forward to showcasing this to the families, friends and community of St George’s Anglican Grammar School.
