From the Principal

Congratulations to our Foundation students for completing 100 days of School

On Friday 4th August the Foundation students celebrated 100 days of school. The day was celebrated in a fun and memorable way with lots of creative activities to learn, count and reinforce the number 100. I really enjoyed dressing up in my 100 year old clothes and I especially enjoyed seeing the Foundation students looking older than me! Thank you to everyone, staff, students and parents, for enthusiastically joining in the celebration and attending the special assembly where every student was presented with their 100 days of school medal.

Thank you to the parent helpers for working in the school vegetable garden last Thursday. You were all amazing! Many hands make light work and this certainly was the case with the small group of parents who managed to achieve so much in just an hour. If you are free at any time on a Thursday, please consider joining this fun group of parent helpers in tilling the soil, planting seeds, watering, weeding, and tending to the plants. Not only will your help be greatly appreciated but there is fresh produce for parent helpers to take home to the family.

Please see Mei, Dana or contact the office if you wish to join the gardening volunteers.

If gardening is not your area of interest then perhaps helping in the canteen is something you could consider. Zoe our canteen manager, is looking for parent helpers any day of the week between 10.30am – 1.00pm. Thank you to the current parent helpers who help tirelessly in the canteen on an ongoing basis. It would be great if we could get some new helpers, even just an hour of your time, one day a week would be fantastic. Please contact the office if you would like to volunteer your time in the school canteen.

Promoting parent participation and parent voice at school is crucial for fostering a positive and supportive educational environment. When parents and educators work together, children are more likely to thrive academically and socially. At Athol Road PS we actively seek parent participation and parent input. Please feel free to contact the office at any time if you have additional ideas on how our school could further promote a collaborative and inclusive educational community.

Our school is conducting a Parent Opinion Survey to find out what parents/carers think of our school. This year, ALL parents will be invited to participate in this survey.

The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behaviour, and student engagement. The survey is optional but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. Please look out for the Survey Link and PIN. This will be emailed to all parents/carers and will also be sent via the Sentral Parent Portal.

AUSSIE OF THE MONTH:

Congratulations to our two Aussie of the Month students. Mary-Grace in Year 3 and Bao Tram in Year 4.

Both students were proudly presented with their award at last week’s assembly.

Well done, keep up the great work.

The ARPS community is very proud of you 😊

IMPORTANT REMINDERS

SCHOOL CROSSING:

Thank you to all the parents and families for keeping our children safe and minimising traffic congestion on Athol Road.

PLEASE continue to do the right thing and work together to remind others too!

  • U-Turns are not permitted anywhere on Athol Road during pick up and drop off
  • No stopping on Athol Road directly in front of the school to quickly drop off or pick up
  • No entering the school car park unless you have a disabled car permit
  • No walking through the car park
  • ALWAYS use the school crossing to cross Athol Road, be a good role model and stay safe!

ATTENDANCE:

Unless there is a genuine reason, all students should be attending school. It is a Department of Education requirement that all absences are explained. Please contact the school BEFORE 10am or use Sentral to explain absences to avoid unnecessary SMS messages and so that staff are not having to spend time following up any unexplained absences.

LATENESS:

Please ensure your child arrives at school on time every day. All students should arrive by 8.50am, ready to commence the school day at 9.00am. All late arrivals must go through the office to receive a late pass. Late arrivals are recorded and chronic lateness will be followed up.
