Stage 5 Camp highlights

Years 9 and 10 kicked off Term 3 in the best way possible with three awesome days at Stage 5 Camp.

Highlights included rock climbing, high ropes, bubble soccer, Gaga Ball & the exhilarating "Goliath" swing, standing 26 meters high (one of the highest in the Southern Hemisphere).

A big thank you to former NCS students Cohen Perry and Levi White who joined us on camp. Cohen challenged the students on where they stand with Christ and the impact He has in their lives.

Levi gave his testimony. It was incredible to hear his story and how honest he was with where he was with God.

Year 10's victory in the Year 9 vs 10 Kick Tennis comp, along with tribe games, birthday celebrations (Happy Birthday Riley S!) and praise and worship added to the incredible experience.

Some special moments for us, as staff, included seeing a Year 10 student praying over her friends, a group of Year 9 girls holding hands and praying for each other and the 20 odd students in the breakout room asking questions and praying for each other.

There is so much to praise God for from Stage 5 Camp!

HSC CAFS visit Salt

On Thursday 20 July, the HSC CAFS class went on an excursion to Salt.

Salt is an organisation that runs multiple initiatives to aid individuals and families in the community that are struggling. This includes food hampers, a free cafe, $1 clothing, housing assistance and more.

As a group we volunteered across the Thursday activities; serving at the pop-up cafe, distributing the food hampers and using our best customer service skills in the pop-up clothing store. We really enjoyed this experience as it gave us a greater insight into those in our community that are struggling and seeing how much organisations such as Salt have helped.

We’d like to thank the volunteers and organisers that spoke to us about the goals and achievements of the organisation as well as personal experiences and helped us learn how to help others. It was a great opportunity that all of us would love to do again!

A big thank you also to our staff for kindly donating food & other items.- HSC CAFS class

Grace also competed with the Eclipse Taekwondo Team from Nowra in the NSW State competition at Olympic Park. She competed in four events, bringing home a first, a second and two thirds.

Later this year, Grace will compete in the Australian Nationals in Perth, and is working hard to represent NSW and bring home a gold! Well done Grace.

Alana’s adventure to Malaysia for the ACWW Conference

Last term, Year 11 student Alana H-S attended the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) Conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The ACWW was founded in 1929 to bring together rural women and their organisations all over the world, and in so doing address the challenges they faced as a result of the isolation of their communities, discrimination against women, and their lack of standing in political processes. ACWW’s membership spans 82 countries including the Australian Country Women’s Association (CWA).

Alana has been involved with the CWA for some time and her Grandmother was the Vice President of the Victorian CWA. Alana’s Grandmother also attended the Conference in Malaysia with her.

At the last conference in 2020, which was held in Melbourne, the then Princess of Malaysia attended but had to leave early as her Father died and she had to return to Malaysia to become the Queen.

Queen Azizah of Malaysia runs the Malaysian version of the CWA and therefore agreed to host the next Triennial conference in Kuala Lumpur.

Alana said she found the conference really interesting as they discussed policies and world goals around women and helping women in poorer communities. The ACWW often advises the UN around issues affecting women, particularly rural women or women living in poorer communities.

Alana said the highlight of the conference for her was getting to go to the Royal Palace. She was able to wear the dress she made for her Year 11 Textiles and Design project and Queen Azizah even showed them around the palace including the Coronation Room and Throne Room.

During her time in Malaysia, Alana was also able to do some sightseeing. She really enjoyed visiting the Batu Caves which is an old Hindu Temple.

“It was really interesting seeing how the people live high in the mountains with virtually nothing,” Alana said.

“The entire trip was an amazing experience, but it has really made me appreciate what we have. You feel a bit silly walking around with the latest technology when you see how little money these people live on. They are really poor to our standards,” she said.

Alana hopes to get the opportunity to attend the next ACWW Conference in three years time as it will be held in Canada.
