What’s New at Extend?
Laura Overhill, Service Coordinator
Welcome back to School everyone! We have been so glad to hear of the marvellous adventures of our returning students, and have enjoyed getting to make some amazing new friends over the last two weeks.
By all accounts, despite the tragic summer season, our families have made it through and brought back to our community a great sense of what is important to them.
On a really positive note, what a BLAST we have had over the School holidays! A Frozen 2 movie
adventure, snow globes, candle making, marbled mugs, a disco party, homemade icy poles, friendship bracelets, and energetic ping-pong competitions are just some of the awesome things our kids have had fun doing over the school holidays.
If you do have time to do so, please have a chat with our Staff! Every day, we complete periodic
observations of our students to keep track of their progress against the Early Years Learning Framework outcomes.
We would love to discuss these with you, so please keep an eye out for observations of your child being noted on our families announcement board.
As always, we love to hear from you!
The Extend Superstar is…
Ethan Russell … for lending a helping hand to the new Prep students at Extend. Ethan is kind and responsible, and a great role model for all Extend students.
Update with ELC Spacing in 2020
Last year, some of you may have noticed that we used the ELC rooms to hold our afterschool services for our ELC students.
As it is the beginning of the year, we will be using J3 when appropriate. When ELC bookings begin to return to regular numbers in the afternoons, we will relocate back to the ELC rooms on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Wednesdays and Fridays have normally indicated less need for ELC families, but should that prove to be different in 2020, we will use the ELC spaces where appropriate.
Bottle Caps Needed!
Here at Extend Kilvington, we have adapted a new way to allow your child to voice their opinion on future planned activities every week. We will have four jars with the following categories: science, art, sports and cooking.
Each week, we will change the activities corresponding to these subjects allowing your child to vote for their preferred activity.
This is where we need your help. In order for the children to vote for their preferred activity, we will need bottle caps as tokens. If you have a bag of bottle caps or even just one, it’ll really help us!
Seeking Volunteers!
Students have expressed interest in learning more about what people do in our community and, as such, we are looking for volunteers to visit us in the afternoons to talk about what they do.
Some of the ideas for professions the students came up with include:
- Builder
- Journalist
- Doctor
- Scientist
- Garbage Collector
- Army Veteran
- Aboriginal Elder
- Banker
- Farmer
- Park Ranger
- Veterinarian
- Chef
- Optometrist
- Fire Fighter
This isn’t an extensive list, and if your job or interest provides a service to the community, we would love to hear from you!
If you are that person, or if you know someone, or you can help put us in touch with the right people, please contact Service Coordinator Laura at kilvington@extend.com.au.
Philosophy Review
We have recently reviewed our service philosophy and we would like to share it with you and request any feedback.
There will be a version displayed on the families' table along with a feedback box for you to leave any thoughts.
