Music Notes

Welcome to 2020
I would like to welcome you all back to what promises to be another sensational year.
Ensemble and Choir rehearsals are underway for the year. Please check KCEE and the Music Notice Board for any updates to the program.
Friday Afternoon Soirees
Friday Afternoon Soirees will recommence from February 14. The Soirees are held in PVC7 from 3.45 to 4.30pm. All KGS music, speech and drama students are welcome to perform, as well as students who attend external lessons.
All performances must be booked either by writing your name and details of your performance on the Friday Afternoon Soiree forms pinned up on the Notice Board in the Music building foyer, or by emailing Ms Carmel Slater (Head of Keyboard and Theory) at slaterc@kilvington.vic.edu.au.
Items should be no longer than three to four minutes. Please contact Ms Slater for further information.
International Suzuki Voice Conference
In the School holidays, Agrata Sharma (Year 9), Charlotte Westaway (Year 9) and Xavier Clark (Year 10) attended the 15th International Suzuki Voice Conference.
They were joined by students and teachers from Japan, Finland, Poland and the USA.
The students attended daily tutorial classes and private lessons, studying many musical elements as well as each performing a vocal solo. The highlight of the conference was performing the Opera, Hansel and Gretel, in German, at the finale Gala Concert held at Deakin Edge at Federation Square.
Jazz Cabaret Evening
On Friday 20 March we will be holding a Jazz Cabaret Evening for Year 7 to Year 12 music students. Our Music Captains, Jesse Thompson and Isaac Miles-Fine, along with our Choral Captain, Jerry Ge, will be assisting staff in the organisation of this event.
We invite you to come along, bring a plate of food and drink and enjoy a relaxing and entertaining night of music. Our talented students will be performing an array of musical, jazz and blues items. Selected ensembles and soloists will entertain throughout the evening.
We are once again fortunate to return to Glen Eira Town Hall for the event. The evening will commence at 6.30pm and conclude around 9.00pm. Trybooking details will be communicated to you in the coming weeks. If there are any parents who can assist on the night, please contact the Music Reception.
Matilda - Senior School Musical
Rehearsals for the Kilvington production of Matilda have commenced. Students have been working incredibly hard for two nights after School each week.
Performances will be held on May 21 - 23. Ticket details will be available soon.
Kadenza Beginner Band
I would like to encourage any new students to the School - and the Year 5 Band Program students from last year - to join our Kadenza band. Kadenza is a concert band aimed at students who have been learning music for two years or less.
Students are assisted with their playing by Music Mentors from Senior levels. The Band rehearses each Wednesday from 10.35 – 11.00am in PVC7. All students are welcome to attend.
Contemporary Choir – New Members Welcome
Contemporary Choir is open to all students from Years 7 to 12. The Choir rehearses on a Friday before School at 7.30am in PVC7 in the Music School. The repertoire is fun and engaging with songs that everyone knows.
Our first performance will be at the Jazz Cabaret Concert on March 20. It would be great to see new faces at our next rehearsal. Please bring a friend and enjoy a fun start to your Fridays.
