Senior Soccer Report

We were all ready and set, sitting on the trusty Castlemaine secondary college mini bus, Mr Windle at the wait, two soccer-balls under each arm. One Nike (in what we call beautiful condition), the other some sort of Aldi product which was harder than any common rock. Minutes ticked by, tick toc tick toc, still no sign of Mr Caspar Killeen, our patience was running dry. The driver, Mr Van Emmerick, revved the engine and out of nowhere there he (Caspar) was. And we were off, whether to victory (McDonalds?) or a feed (McDonalds) no one knew. After reaching the misty fields in the province of north Bendigo, we visually assessed The Bendigo Senior secondary team and our initial thoughts were not at all what we would call ‘positive.’ We were greeted by their coach who had a modest mindset and ego, I quote “this is usually a training match for our team.” Although we proved him wrong with an 8-0 win (actually they scored the 8) and some cracking football. With a loss under our belts we headed in to the next game with nothing to lose, Castlemaine Secondary College versus Catholic College Bendigo. We started off strongly, playing some brilliant football in harmony with a couple of near misses. However, as time played its role we grew ever wearier and we let down our guard; The next thing you know Catholic College lobbed a corner-cross followed by a stunning ‘header.’ That was it, the battle had been fought, the game had been lost and we were to retire to spectating. After watching a close one all game between ‘Bendigo Senior’ and ‘Catholic College’ we were off on our way home.

Senior Boys Netball

On Thursday the 18th May our Year 12 boys played netball against Bendigo Senior. The game was held here at the Blakeley Road Gym.

Joel Wooton, Tom McLean, Sam Nettleton, Darcy Quinn and Doug Gray along with the help of some of our year 11’ to fill the side due to some of the original year 12’s being injured. The Year 11 boys Zac Sparrow, James Kerr, James Chaffey and Alex Thompson all stepped up to support the team.

We started off strong with a three point lead at quarter time 5-2. Unfortunately for the rest of the game Bendigo Senior came out strong with the end score being 10-31, Bendigo Senior’s way.

Cass Humphrey and Olivia Elliott were great coaches for the boys, giving lots of tips both on the day and at trainings.

A big thankyou to Ms. Rossiter and Bonnie McCubbin for umpiring and Taylah Satori for taking photos of the game.
