Acting Principal's Report

COVID-19

As you know we have now suspended all non-essential activities at Concord for the foreseeable future. As an extra precaution we will also be altering our timetable to reduce the number of students in the yard at any given time. We have lost access to the Loyola Oval for the remainder of the term so we feel it is important to reduce the number of students in one space where possible. Recess will no longer be outside with all students staying in their classrooms during this break time. Each section will have a staggered 30 minute outside break from 12:00 – 2:00. With lunch eaten inside classrooms separately. Please note the Watsonia Campus has less students and will not need to follow these precautions.

We have also temporarily suspended our volunteer and pre-service teacher programs as we attempt to limit the number of people who visit the school. This has also impacted the employment of casual relief teachers (CRTs). We will not be employing CRTs during the foreseeable future. A number of students have been absent over the past few days and we anticipate that we will be able to spread our teachers to cover in every classroom.

We are pleased to advise that additional cleaning measures have been adopted at Concord with toilets being cleaned twice daily. We are also undertaking measures to support the continuity of learning should the school be forced to close in the future. The school has purchased additional licences in Mathletics and Sunshine Online to give all students access from home. Details are provided in the Teaching and Learning section of the newsletter.

Staffing

We are very pleased to announce that Yvette Wang will be our new Secondary 7/8 PreCAL teacher. Yvette comes to us with exceptional references and we look forward to her visit this week where she will get the chance to meet the students before term 2 commences.

Farewell

I also wanted to thank everyone in our community for an amazing term. There have been a few unique challenges on the way this year but everyone has banded together and our students have demonstrated such amazing resilience. Without the support of our incredible staff and the community this would not be possible. A big thanks to all. Keep safe in the holidays and make sure you wash your hands.
