From the Principal Class Team

Student Teachers
We are pleased to welcome eleven students who are completing their Masters of Teaching at the University of Melbourne. They will be taking classes in the areas of English, Humanities, Physical Education, Maths and Science.
St Albans Secondary College has a long history of supporting teacher candidates and we hope they have a successful and productive time here at the College.
Thank you to all of our teaching staff who are mentoring the teacher candidates.
Year 10 Peer Mentors
As mentioned in a previous newsletter we are trialling a program of Year 10 peer mentors who support new students, and Year 9 students through the homework club. Our peer mentors are Daniel Makahon, Ling Sun, Hannah McEniery, Blen Asfaw and Michelle Phan. Feedback is the program is going very well. Congratulations to all the peer mentors.
Work Experience
Congratulations to all of the Year 10 students who recently completed their two weeks of work experience. The feedback we received from visiting staff and employees was overwhelmingly positive. We trust that all of the students gained a lot from this experience.
Course Counselling
Term 3 is a very busy time for the College, with students from Year 8 to Year 11 selecting subjects for 2017.
Year 9 to 11 have specific days when this counselling takes place. No timetabled classes occur on these days for that year level.
The dates are as follows:
Year 11 on Tuesday 2nd August
Year 10 on Thursday 4th August
Year 9 on Tuesday 9th August.
Parents are most welcome to attend with their children. Each student will have a specific appointment time. If you have any questions about course counselling please speak to the MIPs team or the relevant sub school.
Buildings & grounds -
Whats new?
Improvements to our buildings & grounds are continuing, and we hope that you have had a chance to notice some differences when you visit.
- The Performing Arts Centre has had a facelift with rendering, & new garden beds & seating for students constructed at the front of the building.
- The oval redevelopment is really taking shape with new cricket nets, a running track, and shot put & discuss nets under construction. We expect these to be ready for student use in Term 4. Shade cover and seating, & at least 60 new trees, will add to a great facility.
- Two very old portable classrooms were removed this week and replaced with a brand new building which is currently being prepared for use.
- The September holidays will see the planting of the carpark gardens.
