Principal's Report

Student Achievements

Students of Concord School have been participating in some exciting activities with students in mainstream schools. Today some of our Secondary students, who live near Laurimar PS, worked in leadership roles assisting at the Laurimar PS Athletics Carnival. I will post some photos of this in the next Newsletter.

This morning I visited Arthur’s Creek PS. Jane Stacey had taken a number of our students who had the lead roles in the Secondary Spectacular last year to the school. They were mentoring the students of ACPS for their upcoming school performance of High School Musical. Our six students were confident and performed their dances perfectly despite not having practiced them since last year. Well done to Jake D, Lily S, Luca Z, Hardial S, Brianna K and Charlotte H.

Student Opinion Survey

The students at the Bundoora Campus recently completed the Student Opinion Survey. This is a mandatory survey completed by all DET schools each year. As the questions in the the survey this year were ‘new’ we are unable to compare the results to those in the survey last year. The results indicate a student belief that the school has a high standard of teaching and learning as well as a positive climate. The school teams will analyse the responses to each question considering the student year levels and gender to identify areas for improvement. The results can be seen in the table below

NDIS Information Evening-Thursday 16th August

As Sarah has continued to remind you, Concord School will be hosting an NDIS Information Evening next Thursday evening. A representative from NDIA will be coming to present and will then stay to answer any questions people may have about the NDIS process. This information session will be relevant to families with children from Prep to Year 12. Bronwyn Hart and Rhiannon Campbell will also be there to answer questions regarding the NDIS regarding transitioning to post school options. All families, friends and staff are welcome to attend this evening. It will be held in the Discovery Centre at 7pm.

School Uniform Reminder

We are nearing the end of winter but the days are often still very cold and most of our students are wearing the winter uniform. The vibrant red in the Secondary jumper is particularly noticeable and parents/carers are reminded once again that the school jumper, and not the spray jacket, must be worn first with the formal uniform. Please contact Deb Whiteway in the school office on 94673972 if you require the red (or charcoal for Year 11/12) woollen jumper, spray jacket and/or rugby jumper. Parents/carers whose circumstances may make it difficult to obtain a school uniform are asked to contact Colin Simpson (Assistant Principal) for assistance.

School Communication and the use of Compass

It is important that all parents log into Compass so our school can communicate effectively with you. If you have any questions regarding Compass, or are having difficulty in logging-on, then please ring Karen Jordan at our school on 94673972. The Compass log-on can be found at https://concordsch-vic.compass.education or through the ‘Compass Parent Portal’ link on our website.

Principal's Award

The Principal's Award goes to Connor Steward

Connor is a friendly, co-operative and valued member of SCI. He has settled in well into Secondary 9/10. Connor is a responsible and respectful student who lives by the Concord School values daily. Connor makes a sincere effort and works hard in class to focus on the task at hand. When given extra support he presents neat work and enjoys learning. He shows a desire to improve in all areas of the curriculum, especially his favourite subject Maths, where he shows strength in working with numbers. Connor always behaves in a mature manner when out in the community. Well done Connor, keep up the good work!
