INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE

CAS in action during online learning

At the end of Term 1, Year 11 International Baccalaureate (IB) student Hugo Currie created and launched the TRAC Python Basics Coding Course. The course already has 29 students enrolled so far and is made up of nine online challenges. After students complete the challenges, they receive a certificate to recognise their completion of the course which can be added to their resumes as a qualification.  In order to navigate the course, students must watch tutorials on YouTube that are produced by Hugo.

His “Coding for Kids” YouTube channel has gained an international following and allows for people outside of our school to learn to code. Hugo’s approach to a fully online course has allowed students to participate in this co-curricular activity during this time of online learning.  Hugo hopes for the course to continue running and to make a possible progression into the new College Primary School in 2021 so kids can learn to code from a young age and progress their skills even further into high school.

This course is a huge credit to Hugo and his motivation to share his knowledge of a subject that he is passionate about and to provide opportunities for new skills to be easily developed in a manner that is not widely accessible.

For students interested in completing the TRAC Python Basics Coding Course, simply join the Google Classroom (Class code: jr6vz3z) and follow the instructions.
