Welcome

Welcome to the first edition of our newsletter for Term 2. We are very pleased to commence this term with the full return of Year 12 this week, and Year 11 next week, and the staged return of  Years 7 - 10 to the College next week. 

Term 2 - Phased transition back to school

Please see below information for the next two weeks of Term 2.  This information was sent via email to families on Wednesday:

Week 3 - Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May – WEEK B

  • Year 12 to continue with face to face classes
  • Year 11 are invited to return to face to face learning on campus Monday – Friday.  This will mark the end of TRAC Online for Year 11

A phased reintroduction of face to face learning for Years 7 – 10. Students are invited to return to face to face learning on campus in the following way:

  • Year 7 and Year 8 – Monday 11 May and Thursday 14 May
  • Year 9 and Year 10 – Tuesday 12 May and Wednesday 13 May
  • Friday 15 May will be TRAC online for all students in Years 7 - 10
  • TRAC online for all students in Years 7 – 10 on days when not at school.

The College is providing supervision for students of essential workers – please let the College know if your child will be attending by emailing: Trac.Online@trac.nsw.edu.au

Week 4 Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May – WEEK A

  • Year 11 and Year 12 to continue with face to face classes

In regards to Week 5 and beyond, we will continue to monitor all information and provide plans for this on Wednesday 20 May. 

SICKBAY and ILLNESS

If a student or anyone in their family presents as unwell, the student is to stay at home.

 

Sickbay is closed and will be limited to those students with a diagnosed chronic condition only. 

 

Any student who presents as unwell will be sent home immediately.

Farrer Road Update - Access to the College

Wagga City Council has now commenced the final stage of the Farrer Road upgrade. These works will conclude on 15 July.

 

Commencement of the final stage has enabled the College to reopen two additional driveways (Gate 4 & Gate 5).

 

Please note: the direction of traffic at all driveways is one way.

 

The details below outline what each driveway (Gate) is to be used for what purpose:

 

Gate 1 EXIT ONLY

For staff, Year 12, busses and visitors parked at the western end of the College.

 

Gate 2 ENTRY ONLY

For staff, Year 12, busses and visitors that wish to park at the western end of the College or in front of the Admin building.

 

Gate 3 EXIT ONLY

For visitors, staff parked in front of the Administration building and dropoff/pickup zone departures. 

 

Gate 4 ENTRY ONLY

For Staff, Year 11, visitors parked in front of the MaD building, dropoff/pickup zone entrance and Uniform Shop customer entrance.

 

Gate 5 EXIT ONLY

For Staff, Year 11, Uniform Shop customer departures.

You are invited to download the new TRAC Parent Portal

 

 

Today, Mr Howard, Deputy Principal - Head of Campus emailed all parents and guardians inviting you to download the Compass School Manager for Parents. This communication platform is a secure site where you can access an array of information about your child/children. 

 

Using the Parent Portal in Compass you will be able to:

  • Access and download your child's Semester Reports. (For copies of Reports from previous years, please contact the College.)
  • View up-to-date class and school attendance information.
  • Approve or enter upcoming or past absences for your child/children.
  • Update your registered email and mobile number (used for SMS alerts) details.
  • Access information regarding upcoming events and news.

The following capabilities will be available once the software is fully implemented:

  • Book your Parent/Student/Teacher interviews.
  • Download, print and approve upcoming excursions.

ACCESSING COMPASS SCHOOL MANAGER APP

Compass is a web-based system that is accessible on any modern web browser or by using the 'Compass School Manager' app available for iOS or Android.

Busabout - School Bus Services

A reminder for all families. On March 30th, a raft of changes were implemented to the Wagga bus network, including school services. In an attempt to simplify and to avoid any confusion, please see the following points:

  • Some students may need to catch a different bus to and from school
  • Students that once transferred buses at Lutheran School can no longer do so. These transfers now take place at different locations.
  • The timetable for many school buses has changed.

TRACTIVE CHALLENGE

Last Friday saw the commencement of the exciting new alternative to Friday afternoon sport - 'TRACTIVE'. Congratulations to Browning House who is top of the leader board with an accumulation of close to 800 points for their house.

 

Students can join a Strava club for their house and earn house points for every kilometre that they run, walk or ride each week. Students can find out more about the Strava Challenge in homeroom.

Uniform Shop

The Uniform Shop is currently open on Tuesday's from 9am-1pm. 

 

To adhere to social distancing rules, student family groups will need to remain outside of the shop until they are invited in by a shop staff member.

 

All transactions will be via EFTPOS, credit card or debit card only. Cash sales will no longer be accepted.

Change in dates for Year 10 Work Experience

Work Experience for Year 10 students in Term 2  Week 6 (1-5 June) has been postponed.

 

New Work Experience Dates for all Year to students (excludes Year 10 Commerce): 

Term 3 Week 6 (24-28 August)

 

Students in Year 10 Commerce Classes will be attending the School Entrepreneur Program: Illuminate NextGen Challenge – 24 - 28 August 2020 (Details will be available early Term 3)

 

The School Entrepreneur Program: Illuminate NextGen Challenge is a five-day intensive program that enables high school students to experience first-hand what it takes to be an entrepreneur. Students work in teams of 5-8 to develop a business idea for a set core challenge relevant to the Riverina region, providing students with the opportunity to develop skills in communication, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration. Students also learn the fundamentals of design thinking and basic business skills such as business planning, the business model canvass, market research, promotions, financial accounting, and the developing of minimum viable products.

The NSW English Teachers Association have moved all training for teachers and students – including HSC Study Days – to online learning due to Covid-19 – all students can register their attendance for free.

Absence Process

Student absences should be reported to the College via email absences@trac.nsw.edu.au  or notification via the Compass School Manager App on the day of the absence, preferably by 9:00am.

This year's theme is   WATER!  

 

As well as submitting ONE photograph per student, you can also submit a 30 second video clip (up to a maximum of 3 students making each clip - no more).

 

*Think about aspects such as light, focus, composition, interesting subject matter & the setting.

The Ilford Photographic Competition advertised in the last edition of the College Newsletter has been cancelled. Students will be notified if this competition is to recommence for Round 2.

Child protection and support services

If your child has a Medical Action Plan please ensure that the College Office has an up-to date copy for the student's file and Sickbay.

Long-term Absences

If the student will be absent for more than 2 weeks (10 school days), an application to the Principal is required is required via the Application for Extended Leave - Vacation/Travel Form prior to departure.  Once this document is completed by the Parent/Guardian, please return to the College Office for processing.  You will then receive a Certificate of Extended Leave - Vacation/Travel.

 

Students who will be absent for shorter periods of time (less than 2 weeks) are also required to supply written notification to the College.

 

All student absences should be reported to the College via email absences@trac.nsw.edu.au.
