Return to School

No doubt you are well across the news  and are aware of the Andrew's Government 'Return to School Plan'.  So... just to make sure we are all on the same page I will outline our response as advised by  Catholic Education Victoria.

Following advice from the Chief Health Officer, the Victorian Government and the Catholic Education Commission of Victoria Ltd (CECV) have advised that schools can begin a phased return to onsite schooling.

In the first stage, our Year Prep and Year 1/2 students will return to school from Tuesday 26th May.

To support all school staff to prepare for this transition, Monday 25th May will be a student-free day (School Closure Day). OSHClub will be running for those families who need supervised care for their children on the day. OSHCub will  be sending out communications to registered families in regards to bookings so please keep an eye out for that.  Unregistered families may like to begin the enrolment process

In the second stage of our return to onsite schooling, our Years 3-6 children will return to school from Tuesday 9th June.

For those students who cannot be supervised at home and vulnerable children, the existing model of onsite schooling will remain in place during the two-week period from Tuesday 26th May to Tuesday 9th June. The current process that we are using to enable parents and carers to indicate the days or part-days for which onsite schooling is required will continue for this two-week period.

All other students in those year levels will continue learning from home until Tuesday 9th June.

Once a year level has returned, all students will be expected to attend school as normal. This means if you choose to keep your child/children home after their year level has returned to onsite schooling, we can no longer support their learning from home.

This does not apply to children who need to be absent for health or medical reasons. For those families, please contact us so we can make an appropriate plan.

This same approach is being taken by all Catholic and government schools in Victoria.

To support the health and wellbeing of all students and staff, our school will continue an enhanced cleaning routine and will encourage frequent hand-washing/sanitizing.

If your child is ill or is feeling unwell, they must not attend school. They must remain home and seek medical advice.

While the Chief Health Officer has advised that students will not be required to maintain physical distancing at school, there will be a number of important changes to our school operations, consistent with health advice to all schools that will be made available in coming days. These will apply until further notice. I will provide more details about our local school context as soon as possible, but it is important to note that changes will include:

  •  adjusted arrangements for drop-off and pick-up
  • restrictions on access to the school site for anyone other than immediate school staff, contractors and students
  • no onsite group gatherings
  • children are to use their own water bottle... NO communal drinking taps

We understand that some families may feel anxious about this move back to classroom teaching and learning. I can assure you that this decision has been taken on the basis of the best health advice available to our state.

More information about the return to school and coronavirus (COVID-19) can be found on the CECV website, which will continue to be updated: www.cecv.catholic.edu.au/Coronavirus-information-for-parents.

In the meantime we will continue with our remote learning model. Staff will be adjusting programs  and work tasks with an emphasis on transitioning back to school.

As we move into these new phases I would like to thank you for your continued support and patience during this time and we truly look forward to welcoming our students back to the classroom.

Mothers' Day Breafast!

I hope all our mums were treated to a scrumptious breakfast on Sunday and were spoilt by their children. Looks like there might be some Mother's day breakfasts 'in lieu' this weekend too.

Blinding Lights Challenge

Thanks to those families who have already submitted their Blinding lights Challenge video... Now it's our time to have a giggle!

We will be posting our Family Challenge video this Friday afternoon so get your video in ASAP. It doesn't matter if it's just you and the dog, we would love you to join in the fun. So far there have been 476 views of our take on the challenge so I bet you could beat it! If you are having trouble sending your video by email, just share it with us via your Google drive!

Can't wait to see it all put together on Friday!

Skipping

Starting next week, Years 3-6 will begin a new unit of work in Physical Education on skipping. We are asking for families to ensure they at least have one skipping rope per family to use. If you do not have a skipping rope at home, you can collect one from school this Friday between 8.15am and 9.15am via our 'Drive by" collection station in the front car park. Simply drive in and collect it, straight from your car!

Alternatively, you can buy a skipping rope from Kmart  for $5, or some Woolworths stores have them in stock too.

If you have any trouble, please email me on bwohling@cckingsville.catholic.edu.au

Corpus Christi Trivia Carnival

Thank you to all children who submitted their answers to our Trivia Carnival held during last Monday's assembly. I hope you all enjoyed the challenge and had a little bit of fun along the way. Judging by the amount of devices logged in to the Meet it seemed to be a success.

I am currently going through the process of scoring each entry (didn't really think that one through did I?) and I hope to announce the winning team next Monday.

Anyway, I am sure you all want to know the answers to each question so here they are.
