Meet our College Captains

Ashley Beley, Liturgy Captain Clyde North Campus
When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?
I came to St.Peter’s College at the end of Year 9. My family has just moved houses and I was still attending my previous school, Emmaus College. I wasn’t actually intending on participating in the HeadStart Program, though the students were so welcoming that they made it easy to cope with being a new student and saying goodbye to my old school.
Tell us about your family?
I am the eldest of 3 siblings. I live with both my parents and my 2 younger brothers. At times it’s as if I’m their second mum since our age gaps are pretty big, with the youngest only being 2 years old. I think this is where I get my maternal instincts that my friends usually point out; that I then blindly deny.
Tell us about your other interests?
I’m a sucker for a good movie, specifically horror movies – I could watch them all day. I also enjoy making things; from food to DYI to sewing, you name it! I have a keen eye for the arts although I must admit it is my frustration since I can’t even draw.
Year 12 Studies:
Since my desired course in the future doesn’t require anything special in regards to subjects; I decided to take mainstream English as well as General Maths instead of signing myself up for brain torture that I won’t even need. Coming from a very religious family, I decided to do Units 3 & 4 Religion and Society as it is something that I do enjoy. I have also continued with Food studies and Studio Arts from Year 11. As I mentioned, I’m quite keen on the Arts, although I’d be lying if I said that Studio was not the cause of my tears last year. It’s an amazing subject don’t get me wrong, It’s just that I’m not quite there yet.
Have you already completed any of your VCE Studies prior to this year?
I have been doing Psychology since Year 9 at my old school and so it was one of the first things that I organised when I moved here to St. Peter’s College. I completed the subject last year and it feels quite weird breaking the 3 year streak and not having to study any content for it this year.
2020 College Annual Theme
For I am gentle and humble in heart
What does this mean to you?
I think this statement relates to leadership. I feel that a good leader really requires the qualities of being gentle and humble. A leader is not someone who seeks praises for the things that they have done, rather they sit on the sidelines simply content with the smiles that their choices have turned into.
How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?
I feel that particularly with my role, it is a an under appreciated part of our school life. Although we are a Catholic school, I think people perceive the Liturgical part as something that is very small or minimal even though it is a major part of our school identity. I think this role will just teach me how to become more humble and to show others that we can all live with a humble heart that desires to simply serve, just as Jesus did.
What are your goals for 2020?
As cheesy as it sounds, I intend on making Religion cool! This year my goal is to make Religion something that is normal, something that can be appreciated and shared with others. To eliminate the taboo or the fear of talking about religion because it’s “lame”. I plan on revamping the Prayer Group to make it more enticing for students to join. Being able to re-create music festivals like the AYF that recently happened in Perth, on our very own oval. I simply wish to be able to do things that shows students that being part of Catholic school isn’t only rewarding but can also be fun!
For yourself in your Captains role?
I hope to make a difference this year. To be able to stand at the Year 12 Final Assembly of the year and be able to truly tell myself that I am proud of all that I have achieved for the college. I wish to be able to leave behind something that will last, something that I can use to prove to myself that I made a difference in our school community.
For yourself as a Year 12 student?
My ultimate goal is mainly just to survive the year. To be able to keep focused and on top of my work load. I just hope to be able to get the grades that I need whilst keeping my sanity intact.
Personally?
Every year, my main goal for myself is to be more content and to be truly happy. Each year, as I get older, I pray that I do become more content with the people around me. My goal is just to be more accepting of myself and the things that I have; to stop comparing. To pay less attention to the materialistic things and divert my time to being more content with what I have and who I am.
What would you like your legacy be for St. Peter’s College?
I wish to be able to show more importance to the role that I was appointed. To show the future students and candidates of this role that it shouldn’t be under appreciated and that it truly is a fulfilling and important role to have in our school. I just wish to be able to pass on the desire and fire for this work so that we can maintain and enrich the identity of our school.
What are you immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?
As tired as I am of squeezing my brain, I plan on continuing my studies to become a teacher. I’ve always loved children and helping people so I think this translated to my desire of becoming a teacher in the future. It’s been a dream of mine since I was 6.
What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?
Although I haven’t got every detail written down, I do have an idea of what my end goal is. I just wish to be able to finish university, get a stable job and probably settle down after travelling and seeing the world. Content and happy, truly realising how blessed I have been.
In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?
Challenges come and go, but you must always remember that you are capable of getting through anything becau

When did you start your studies at St. Peter’s College?
I started my studies at St. Peter’s College in 2015 as a Year 7 and to be fully honest, I was terrified.

My family consists of my Mum and Dad and my older sister and older brother. We are a very close family and are also extremely loud and I love that about us!

2020 College Annual Theme
For I am gentle and humble in heart
What does this mean to you?
To me, “For I am gentle and humble in heart” means to live as a servant leader. By serving and putting others before yourself and act with love and kindness in your heart.
How will you live this statement throughout the year in your role?
I don’t think this motto is hard to live by, but I think it is a matter of reminding myself, especially in difficult situations, that this is how we are called to live. Lets face it, if everyone lived this way, the world would be a more peaceful place.
What are your goals for 2020?
My goal for 2020 is to just have a good year. Whilst it’s my last year, and the most important year, I also want to make this year a memorable one– spend valuable time with the people around me and really take everything in because before I know it, this will all be over.
For yourself in your Captains role?
As Liturgy Captain, I want to show people the amazing love that God has for each and every one of us. Whilst sticking to tradition, my goal is to modernise the Liturgies and Masses so that people will feel more connected and uplifted during these celebrations.
For yourself as a Year 12 student?
In Year 12, the work-load is quite heavy and you always need to make sure you are spending your time wisely. So as a Year 12 student who procrastinates a lot, my goal is to work on my time management and getting on with my studies as soon as I can and complete it to a satisfactory standard so that at the end of the day, I can look back at and be proud of myself.
Personally?
I want to make the most out of this year and end on a good note. I want to finish this year knowing that I’ve done the best that I can – whether that be academically, or with my friendships.
What would you like your legacy be for St. Peter’s College?
I want to set an example within the college – whether that be through Jesus’ words and actions or just being a positive role model and spreading kindness.
What are your immediate life ambitions and aspirations once you complete your studies at St. Peter’s College?
Once I complete my studies, I would love to go straight to university and hopefully complete a Masters in Clinical Psychology and from there become a registered Psychologist.
What are your long term life ambitions and aspirations?
I hope I live a life where I feel fulfilled in my work and whatever I do is meaningful to society. Simply, I just want to live a happy life!
In one sentence what would you like to say to your fellow students to convey your pride in your College?
When I was in my younger years at St Peter’s College, I didn’t really want to participate in many things, however now that I am a senior student, I’ve witnessed how important it is that you step out of your comfort zone and actually get involved and Be Not Afraid!
