Assistant Principal's Report

We have some very exciting events coming up for our students!

Responsible Pet Incursion

On Friday the 10th June, our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students will participate in the Responsible Pet Ownership (RPO) program. The Responsible Pet Ownership primary school program is aimed at 5 to 12yr olds and has been delivered to over 1 million Victorian primary school children. It visits over 800 primary schools each year across the state. The program educates children on living safely with dogs and responsible pet ownership.

There is no cost for this incursion. However, we do require consent. If our Prep to Year 2 families could please log into Compass and provide consent at their earliest convenience, we would appreciate it.

Sovereign Hill Excursion

Throughout the first semester, the Years 3-6 students have been learning about Australian History from many different perspectives in their Inquiry studies. To finalise this unit, students will be visiting Sovereign Hill. On this excursion, they will explore Sovereign Hill indoors, outdoors, above-ground, and below-ground while attending a Red Hill mine tour and Gold Pour demonstration.

Please ensure that you have paid and given permission on Compass for your child to attend. Students will need to arrive at 7:15am for a strictly 7:30am departure for this event

Lightning Premiership: 10th June

On Friday 10th June our Grade 5&6 students will participate in the Winter Lightning Premiership event, held at Beaconsfield Upper Primary School.

Please ensure that you have paid and given permission on Compass for your child to attend. Students will be leaving from school in the morning at 9am.

Upcoming Public Holiday

Monday 13th June is a Public Holiday. We wish all families a wonderful long weekend.

Uniform

Maintaining high expectations around our school uniform is very important at Orchard Park Primary School. We are noticing many students coming to school with brightly coloured footwear rather than plain black. In addition, we are also noticing many girls wearing leggings as pants. We are more than happy for students to be wearing navy blue leggings under their dresses or skirts; however, these can not be worn in place of navy blue pants or track pants.

This link will take you to our uniform policy. This policy can also be located on the school website

PSW is our uniform supplier and is open to purchase any uniform items your child may need. We can’t emphasise the importance of ensuring all uniform items, particularly jumpers and jackets, are clearly labelled with your child’s name. This assists in misplaced items being returned to the student.

Book Satchels

It has been great to see so many students engaging in nightly reading and developing a love for books whilst also supporting their Literacy development at school. We have invested a large sum of money in setting up our Learning Community Libraries and ensure all our books are contacted. Students must have and book satchel to transport books to and from school. Without a satchel, they will be unable to bring books from the library home. The reader satchel ensures our texts are protected and last for many more years to come. Book satchels are available for purchase at the uniform shop.

Unwell students

As you would all be aware, COVID-19 is still very prevalent in the community, and unfortunately, Flu season is also here. While we understand the challenges with working families, we can't emphasise enough the importance of keeping your child home if they display any COVID or flu-like symptoms. Students who exhibit these symptoms will need to be picked up and remain home until they are healthy again. We thank you for your understanding around this matter.
