Economics, Business & Law Unit (9/10)

This course is a single Semester course that can be taken in Year 9 or Year 10 and in Semester 1 or 2. It builds on content and concepts explored in Year 8 and 9 Humanities. Students explore contemporary economics, business and legal issues.Ā  The course delivery will include opportunities for student directed inquiry, case studies, debate and the use of a range of means of communication.

Ā 

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • The key features and jurisdictions of Australia's court system and the operations of courts and tribunals.
  • The role of courts, judges, lawyers and juries in trials, and the rights of the accused and the rights of victims.
  • Processes that businesses use to manage the workforce and improve productivity
  • The ways that government is connected to and a part of the economy
  • How and why economic indicators influence economic decision-making

Economics, Business & Law Unit 2 (2023 only).

This course is available in 2023 for students who have studied EBL 1 in 2022.Ā The course builds on what was studied in EBL 1 in 2022. Ā The course delivery will include opportunities for student directed inquiry, case studies, debate and the use of a range of means of communication.Ā 

Students will have the opportunity to:

  • Examine indicators of economic performance and how Australiaā€™s economy is performing
  • Investigate the links and possible causation between economic performance and living standards and the variations within and between economies
  • Explore the ways that governments manage the economy to improve economic performance and living standards
  • Investigate the factors that influence major consumer and financial decisions and the consequences of those decisions
  • Examine the ways the emerging workplace is organised and responds to changing conditions in the global economy
  • Investigate current challenges to the rule of law and civil society in Australia
  • The Australian High Court and Constitutional Law
  • Legal Studies: Investigation of a current issue.
