Independent Study is a three-hour-per-week option for students in Year 10 for one or both semesters. This option provides students with:

  • Supervised time and assistance to support independent learning
  • Balance and flexibility in their subject load and in the school day
  • The opportunity to develop skills and strategies for effective time and self-management in preparation for Years 11 and 12 and beyond.

Independent Study is taken in place of an elective, becoming one of the nine subjects studied in a semester. Students are expected to exercise initiative and take responsibility for their time and learning. They also engage in an explicit focus on the development of study skills and reflect on their progress and use of the time at the end of each semester.
